Reporting to the Chief Equity Officer, the Associate Director will lead efforts to diversify our scientific community. By creating evidence-based and welcoming programming, we will enhance science, increase access and equity, and reduce barriers for an exceptional new generation of scientists. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESReporting to the Chief Equity Officer and consulting with the senior advisor for OSEI, the Associate Director Pillar 3 will:Develop and implement a Pillar 3 strategic action plan in collaboration with the Chief Equity Officer, Broad Leadership, and internal and external stakeholders to diversify our scientific community.Partner and collaborate with others including Director, Office of Academic Affairs on existing programs and initiatives (and develop and implement new programs) that align with the Broads commitment to engaging learners and trainees from groups historically underrepresented in biomedical science.Leads and supports the Office of STEM Engagement and Inclusion (OSEI) team to develop, implement and assess evidence-based programming in school and at the Broad for K-12, undergraduate and postbac students from marginalized backgrounds entering and succeeding in STEMM careers.Develop and support programs to recruit and support post-doctoral researchers and faculty from groups historically underrepresented in biomedical science. Directly supervise OSEI staff including hiring, performance review, development, and goal setting.Provide direct management of OSEI finances and budgets and comply with reporting requirements of Broad leadership and external partners and funders. In collaboration with other Broad groups, to pursue appropriate external funding to support Pillar 3 activities. Responsible for identifying and securing grant applications and other proposals to fund OSEI programming. Work closely with Pillar 1 Associate Director (internal climate culture) and Pillar 2 Associate Director (scientific equity) to contribute to the Broads IDEA Office overall strategic action plan by identifying clear measures of success, and building relationships across the organization to ensure accountability of action plan deliverables.Work closely with Pillar 1 Associate Director (internal climate culture) and Pillar 2 Associate Director (scientific equity) to increase transparency, collaboration, and consistency in IDEA Office efforts/programs.In collaboration with Pillar 1 Associate Director (internal climate/culture) and Pillar 2 Associate Director (scientific equity), represent the IDEA Office (through presentations, training, and other speaking opportunities) internally and externally at scientific and educational meetings, conferences, and career fairs.In collaboration with Pillar 1 Associate Director (internal climate/culture) and Pillar 2 Associate Director (scientific equity), develop tracking metrics, collect, and assess data, and prepare written summaries, annual reports, which summarize IDEA efforts/progress.Relationship builder: Initiate and sustain relationships with different labs who play a vital role in the success of our programming; gaining buy-in and ensuring alignment between our programs and the evolving science taking place at the Broad.KEY QUALIFICATIONSAdvanced degree with 5+ years, or bachelors degree with 10+ years of working in a complex scientific ecosystem (i.e. lab, department, or unit).Prior experience in STEMM training (development and/or implementation of STEM training programs) and academic and/or career advising.Demonstrated commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive scientific community.Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, change management, and grant writing. Demonstrated experience in planning and executing projects to successfully advance and imbed equity, diversity, and inclusion within an organization.Excellent consensus-building skills with experience working cross-culturally.An ability to listen, inspire, and influence others when articulating the benefits of equity, diversity, and inclusion.Experience working effectively with all constituencies across an institution; ability to achieve results through empowerment and partnership.Strong data gathering, data analysis, problem-solving, and analytical skills; proven ability to work successfully with data collection methods.Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) communication skills.Strong growth mindset -- excited to grow in role and responsibilities over time.
