The Segel Lab is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position. This lab is dedicated to investigating the evolution of mammalian lifespan, aiming to enhance our understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying human aging.

There is a significant focus on the aging processes of the brain.

The Segel Lab is in its formative stages, and we are eager to welcome several highly-driven individuals who are interested in contributing to a vibrant, inclusive, and innovative academic research atmosphere alongside graduate student trainees. These individuals will play a crucial role in shaping the research direction of a newly established lab within a dynamic and expanding field.

Our research will integrate aspects of stem cell, developmental, and evolutionary biology, making us particularly interested in candidates with a robust research background in the following areas:

  • Embryonic stem cell research and/or the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells).
  • Embryo manipulation and in vitro fertilization techniques.
  • Developmental neuroscience.
  • Biological aging.
  • Preparation and analysis of next-generation sequencing data.
  • Biochemistry.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct research utilizing in vitro or animal models to study aging. 2. Publish and disseminate research findings in reputable scientific journals and at conferences. 3. Maintain regular communication of findings with colleagues and lab members. 4. Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students on interdisciplinary research initiatives. 5. Assist in the preparation of research proposals. 6. Engage in mentoring activities for undergraduate and graduate students. 7. Pursue independent funding opportunities when applicable. Basic Qualifications:
1. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline. 2. Proven track record of research accomplishments. 3. Strong written and verbal communication skills. 4. Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team. 5. Exceptional organizational abilities.
