Responsibilities
We are seeking a Principal Electrical and Electronics Design Engineer to join the Embedded Electronics group. As a principal member of the technical staff, the candidate will play a critical role in the development of next generation processing, computing and sensor/actuator hardware within the electronics division. Members of the Embedded Electronics group support a variety of multi-disciplinary programs lasting an average of 12 to 18 months each. In addition to working on sponsored programs, group members are also encouraged to develop and participate in internally funded research and development programs. The ideal candidate is someone who works well in multi-functional teams and has recent experience crafting sophisticated systems using innovative commercial off-the-shelf FGPAs, processors, or systems on a chip (SOCs). It is expected that this engineer can start quickly on sophisticated PCB designs with limited oversight and learning curve.
Core Responsibilities:
System architecture design and detailed documentation
Detailed electrical analysis, design and schematic capture
Lead PCB layout design activities providing feedback to layout designers
Prototype electronics bring-up testing and debugging, functional verification, and performance characterization
Working in a team environment with various engineering skillsets
Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering
15+ years of work experience in digital and mixed-signal electronic circuit design
Design experience in the following areas:
Schematic capture and design of circuits using FPGAs and microcontrollers
Experience designing for successful signal integrity of designs up to 1GHz data rate
Experience designing support and interface circuits commonly associated with digital PCB designs: power conditioning circuits, basic analog circuits, A/D converters and sensor interfaces, memory interfaces, I/O standards such as I2C, SPI, PCIe, SERDES, JTAG
Outstanding technical capability with strong electrical engineering fundamentals
Excellent written and oral communication
Additional Desired Qualifications:
MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering
Experience leading teams of engineers with mixed skillsets as well as a background in developing new products/business
Experience and understanding of power integrity design, and design of power conditioning circuitry for power rails typically used on a digital PCB designs.
Experience designing systems that use DDR3/4 memory, PCIe, and Gbit serial interfaces
Basic experience with microcontroller software (using C/C++/or assembly), and FPGA firmware (VHDL or Verilog).
Understanding of basic functionality and how the circuit designs interface with SW and FW.
Experience with the following design and simulation tools: Siemens Designer and Layout, Hyperlinx, Ansys, Spice, Matlab)
Experience with miniature electronic packaging and design using bare die or chip-scale packages.
Ability to understand and influence packaging design constraints and requirements for custom designs.
