Overview
The Director – Operational Excellence leads and manages Indiana University Health’s Operational Excellence by deploying strategic priorities, through recruitment and development of the Operational Excellence team. This leader plans, implements, evaluates, facilitates, and continuously improves the performance of operations across multiple acute care facilities/regions through the IU Health operating model. They use process improvement, change, project, and analytical methodologies to work collaboratively with physicians, leadership, finance, departments, and personnel across the facility(s)/regions to facilitate improvements in the design, management, execution and control of facility(s)/regions and in support of IU Health's quality and safety strategic plan, patient experience, and financial goals. The Director – Operational Excellence proactively pursues opportunities for improvement and supports multiple acute care facilities/regions in meeting and exceeding target goals. They’re responsible for the efficient and purposeful integration of services with other areas and emerging delivery models to achieve high reliability while assisting the organization with the integration of process improvement principles and skill development and acts as a facilitator in these efforts. The Incumbent, in partnership with system leadership and system Transformation, establishes policy and direction for the region, and is accountable within defined scope for the results.
QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Bachelor's Degree is required; Master's Degree is preferred.
Requires 7-10 years of relevant experience.
Requires 5+ years of management experience.
Proven track record of driving quantifiable improvements in a complex matric organization is required.
Must have a track record of developing project plans/road maps for implementation in a matrix organization.
Project management experience required.
Experience in leading a multi-site/lean six sigma implementation is preferred.
Understands theory and has demonstrated application of change management fundamentals is preferred.
Operations experience preferred, healthcare or manufacturing experience desired.
Experience with VSM/VSA, High Reliability Organization (HRO), SIPOC, DMAIC, is preferred.
Additional experience in the following is desired: Scientific thinking, operating systems, Training w/in Industry (TWI), 3P, various problem-solving tools, system thinking, Just Culture, and FMEA.
Process Improvement (Lean/Six Sigma) certification preferred; Green Belt certification or equivalent desired.
Requires basic proficiency in MS Office.
