Position Summary:

This position serves by planning and coordinating the fundraising activities of the ministry, building quality relationships with donors and potential donors, planning and executing projects, and communicating the organization’s vision and mission to potential donors so they can participate in funding its evangelistic goals.

It is crucial that this position supports the mission and values of It Is Written by exemplifying the values and beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in all interactions.

Authority & Accountability:

As delegated by and accountable to the Director of Marketing & Development in accordance with It Is Written’s policies and objectives.

Essential Position Functions:

Report directly to the Director of Marketing & Development and assist with and/or lead development responsibilities, providing successful project management of tasks and initiatives.

Possess a working knowledge of development best practices; trends in non-profit, religious development; fundraising tools, and technology, including donor databases, email and online campaigns, and donor research.

Supervise department staff and provide appropriate training and mentorship to grow and improve performance.

Coordinate the various department workflows for effectiveness and efficiency.

Assist in developing and implementing short-term and long-term plans to meet strategic goals and objectives.

Oversee the management, handling, and recording of donations.

Assist with writing assignments, including donor letters, donor receipts, targeted appeals, advertisements, and other forms of external department communication.

Develop and maintain donor recognition programs.

Coordinate with Planned Giving and Trust Services Department on donor relations and fundraising initiatives.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with donors through ongoing communication.

Utilizes Raiser’s Edge, the donor management database, or other donor databases that may be used by the organization.

Plan and manage projects and events related to development, including:

Partnership fundraising events – seven annual fundraising weekends across the country

Donor acquisition campaigns

Internet and in-person fundraising strategies

Collaborate with the Marketing and Creative Departments in developing marketing messages to be communicated externally via social media, website, email, and print, and ensure messages are clear and current.

Assist in the coordination of special events, which may include camp meetings, conventions, and other external events.

Fulfill other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Position Specifications:

Qualifications, Scope, and Complexity of Duties:

Education:

A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required.

A bachelor’s degree in communication, business, development, philanthropy, or related field is preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of four (4) years of experience in leading teams and motivating staff. Two (2) years of experience in philanthropy or professional fundraising is preferred.

Skills, scope, and complexity of duties:

Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Have knowledge of and experience in fundraising techniques.

Possess a working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software.

Demonstrate knowledge of project management skills and have a comfort with leading others through the process.

Be able to recognize, develop, and implement new fundraising models for small, medium, and major gifts.

Ability to connect with donors in person, over the phone, and in writing.

Demonstrate solid leadership skills to coordinate, plan, and execute the essential position functions.

Ability to exercise direction, independent judgment, make decisions, and assume responsibility.

Exhibit excellent organizational skills and follow through on tasks and goals.

Ability to oversee and manage large and complex projects to completion and manage details while seeing the big picture.

Display a positive attitude, show concern for people, demonstrate presence, common sense, and good listening ability.

Possess extreme tact and discretion, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.

Commitment to pursue training on a regular basis to stay updated with the most recent trends and best practices in the industry.

Physical requirements: requires standing, walking, time at a desk, reaching, climbing, and lifting (maximum of 50 lbs.)

Travel flexibility and travel hazards.

Specific Requirements:

Salaried, 38 regular hours per week

Will require variable hours and weekend work

Will require periodic travel for Partnership events.

No special safety gear required.

Business casual attire required.
