About the Role
We're looking for a talented Operations Accountant to join the finance department and oversee the cost accounting activities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing financial data, monitoring costs, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing cost-saving initiatives. The Operations Accountant will work closely with various departments within the organization to ensure accurate costing information and provide valuable insights to support decision-making processes.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and maintain cost accounting systems, processes, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial data.
2. Analyze manufacturing processes, overhead costs, and inventory levels to identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
3. Prepare and analyze cost reports, variance analysis, and other financial performance metrics to support management decision-making.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, procurement, and engineering, to gather relevant data and insights for cost analysis.
5. Participate in the development of product costing models and pricing strategies to optimize profitability.
6. Conduct regular audits of costing data to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
7. Provide guidance and support to junior members of the finance team on cost accounting principles and best practices.
8. Stay informed about industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in cost accounting to recommend and implement process improvements.
9. Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans by providing insights and analysis related to cost drivers and trends.
10. Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation and explanations related to cost accounting practices.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA certification is preferred.
2. 5+ years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.
3. Strong understanding of accounting principles, cost allocation methods, and financial analysis techniques.
4. Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, ERP systems).
5. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and draw meaningful conclusions.
6. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and present findings to senior management.
8. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
9. Experience with cost accounting software and tools is a plus.
10. Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to cost accounting (e.g., GAAP, IFRS).
