The Nurse Practitioner Inpatient Lead provides advanced health care to individuals, families or groups as an advanced or expert clinician. Oversees the activities of inpatient nurse practitioners, provides orientation/training, and is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of advance practice nursing care according to the established policies. Performs assessment of individual health, analyzes data to determine medical and nursing care needed. Plans a treatment strategy to meet identified needs, evaluates responses to nursing and medical interventions.The purpose of this position is to lead the selected department's Advanced Practice Provider group. This includes assisting in hiring, assessing competencies, training, evaluation, scheduling, and other management duties. Additionally, as an Advanced Practice Provider (AAP) they are responsible for providing care in an advanced practice nursing role, under approved protocols, in accordance with (the Collaborative Practice Agreement and NP scope of practice). The NP will provide primary medical management in the department, including assessment and management of patients, education, and research.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Contents are subject to change at Children's Hospital's discretion.Essential Functions:Assessment:Assesses the complex acute, critical and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions.Uses relevant data to evaluate for any physiologic instability and utilizes data to formulate plan of care.Clinical Interventions:Performs therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems. Specific interventions are listed in the Scope of Practice and approved as a part of the credentialing/privileging process.Analyzes the indications, contradictions, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions.Plan of Care:Manages the plan of care through evaluation, modification and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy.Manages changes in condition with a focus on optimizing the patient outcomes. Incorporates health promotion, health protection and injury prevention measures into the plan of care within the context of the complex acute, critical and chronic illness.Facilitates the patients transition between and within health care settings.Education:Serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff and provider team. Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.Patient Safety and Quality:Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practice to enhance safety.Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms.Guidance to the APP group:Assists senior members/leaders with development and implementation of policies and procedures in the department.Educates APPs regarding changes in policies and procedures.Assists with education of staff to promote professional practice and National Standards of Care. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, APPs, students and other health care providers.Education:Required: Master's Degree in NursingPreferred: Doctor of Nursing PracticeExperience:Required: 2 yrs of specialized NP ExperiencePreferred: 4 yrs of NP Clinical Experience and Healthcare leadership experience.License/Certification:Basic Life Support Health Care Provider.Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License - Louisiana State Board of Nursing.Registered Nursing License - Louisiana State Board of Nursing.Nurse Practitioner Certification (Pediatric Acute, Adult Gerontologic Acute, etc.)WORK SHIFT: Variable Hours (United States of America)LCMC Health is a community.
