Technical Manager

This position is responsible for the technical operations of the Pavilion Performing Arts Center, Village Centre Auditorium, and all event and meeting spaces on campus including lighting, sound, set design and construction, and coordinating necessary maintenance. This role works with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment in performing a wide variety of duties. Key to this is a strong work ethic centered on excellent organizational skills and the ability to develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships and communications with all artistic parties (designers, actors, etc.), as well as administrative staff, board members, and volunteers.

Pre-Event Management:
  1. Determine the necessary technical supports, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the facility in advance of production dates.
  2. Design, set up, maintain, and operate lighting and sound systems for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects; assist guest designers and arts with technical matters.
  3. Advise the Production Manager, outside lighting, and sound designers, on the technical specifications, costs, and usage of technical equipment required for the individual show as needed and supervise the implementations of approved technical designs.
  4. Supervises and assists with set and stage construction and management in the Pavilion Performing Arts Center
Performance/Event Execution:
  1. Manage team in executing all events from beginning to end including production set-up (A/V, lighting, sounds requests), production assistance throughout the program, and breakdown ensuring the AV setup is clean, tidy, and in proper working condition at least 30 minutes prior to all event start times.
  1. Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the Pavilion Performing Arts Center, Village Centre Auditorium and all event and meeting spaces, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities.
  1. In the event of addition or changes to event location or set-up assist the Life Enrichment Coordinators or event contact in facilitating guests' immediate needs.
  2. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and fix AV systems before, during, and after events.
Customer Service/Vendor Relations:
  1. Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
  2. Assists with the preparation and control of production budgets; maintains inventory and orders specialized supplies.
  1. Book performers and entertainers for on-campus events and develop positive vendor relationships.
  2. Obtain W-9 and Certificates of Insurance for all outside vendors/contract employees, etc., and file with the Risk Management Officer at time of engagement.
  3. Provide excellent customer service and interaction with residents, staff, and team members. Providing "Service Recovery" as needed.
  4. Collaborate with appropriate departments to ensure performance areas are well maintained and visually pleasing.
  5. Maintain ongoing and frequent communication between all Production staff to keep the department apprised of necessary and important issues and details.
  6. Provide respectful and prompt service to clients, both internal and external, with technical and production knowledge and implementation of needs to ensure smooth execution of events.
  7. Provide A/V training to residents and team members as needed.
  8. Attend weekly LE/Marketing/Production meetings
  9. Attend monthly Event Logistics meeting
  10. Utilize company technological resources (project management programs, Smartsheets).


POSITION SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Technical skills and Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 4+ years' experience in theatre production preferred
  • 4+ years' experience in producing a variety of cultural events, including theater, musicals, and dance.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate the need for technical support for various events and performances; plan, develop, schedule, and provide the technical support required for each event or performance
  • Skilled in Windows-based programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Skilled in online meeting and webinar platforms, specifically, Zoom
  • Able to handle physical efforts by lifting 50 lbs., walking, and standing for long periods at a time.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Knowledge of the Life Plan industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of the aspects of wellness dimensions preferred.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Outstanding and effective communication skills (verbal, written, listening) when addressing residents, family members, guests, employees, and the greater community.
  • Highly proficient collaborator.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to handle projects and communications of a highly sensitive and confidential nature, where absolute discretion is critical.
  • Understand the needs of clients (internal and external) and act accordingly to create and exceptional experience.
  • Able to manage and resolve unexpected situation on a regular basis.
  • Able to demonstrate original thinking and creativity, meet challenges with resourcefulness, develop innovative approaches and ideas and present them in a clear and effective manner.
  • Take ownership for deliverables and actions and contribute value to the organization. Accept responsibility for actions and outcomes.
  • Able to maintain a physical presence at designated work locations, maintaining regular attendance, punctuality, and work a flexible schedule including night, weekends, and holidays events as required.
