Assistant Vice President, Development

Position Summary This position reports to the Vice President of University Advancement and is accountable for providing leadership and management of the fundraising program at Bryant including annual giving, leadership giving, major gifts, planned giving and corporate and foundation giving. As Bryant embarks on its most ambitious capital campaign to date to fund Vision 2030 strategic initiatives, this position will work closely with the Vice President of University Advancement and the Campaign Director to create and execute a comprehensive principal and major gift prospect solicitation program. As the key liaison to Academic Affairs, the AVP will work collaboratively with the members of the University Advancement team and Academic Affairs Leadership team to develop and implement a comprehensive and integrated fundraising program for Bryant Academic programs. The AVP provides leadership and management to a development team responsible for working with Student Affairs and Athletics leadership to develop and implement comprehensive fundraising programs in support of key initiatives. Principal Accountabilities Create and implement the annual development plan, strategy, and operating budget. Evaluate and analyze current fundraising programs using established attributes and metrics to produce accurate reports, and to continually develop programs and activities to meet University fundraising goals and objectives. Work collaboratively with the other departments within University Advancement (Alumni, Communications & Stewardship and Advancement Services) and across the University to ensure supportive relationships that impact fundraising initiatives. Participate in cross-divisional initiatives and working groups that foster collaboration and increase knowledge of University goals and priorities. As the key liaison to Academic Affairs, work closely with Academic Leadership and University Advancement staff to design, implement and manage the fundraising plan for priority programs. Provide leadership and coordination in the development and implementation of both short-term and long-term strategic planning to grow the entire Academic Affairs fundraising effort. Provide effective leadership and management of development staff to continue building a major gift culture within the Development Office and University by mentoring staff in identifying and executing effective engagement and cultivation strategies with various constituent groups (alumni, parents, corporate partners, etc.) Work closely with the President, Cabinet members, select trustees, volunteers, constituent engagement councils, campus constituents, and ad hoc committees in support of fundraising objectives. Develop, implement, and evaluate strategy for principal and major gift solicitation to generate revenue and meet fundraising goals. Provide oversight for Annual Fund programs, ensuring that personal solicitation, telefund, and direct mail components are successfully supporting institutional fundraising goals and strategy. Provide oversight to development team assigned to work with Athletics and Student Affairs partners in developing and implementing fundraising plans for priority programs. Develop, implement and evaluate strategy for Corporate and Foundation Relations solicitations to generate revenue and meet fundraising goals. Assist the Vice President in building and sustaining the fundraising capabilities of the Board of Trustees. Assume direct responsibility for cultivation and solicitation of a select portfolio of principal gift prospects. Effectively recruit, evaluate, motivate and encourage professional development of employees, ensuring that all hiring and supervisory practices comply with the spirit and intent of the University’s policy on diversity and EEO/AA guidelines. Due to the nature of the work, some evening and weekend hours as well as travel, will be required. Qualifications The successful candidate will have senior level experience in fundraising, especially with capital campaigns, preferably in a higher education environment, with a strong knowledge of all aspects of fundraising. The ability to collaborate with key constituent groups, both on and off campus, is critical to the success of a candidate in this position. Strong interpersonal, writing, and communication skills are important, as is the ability to think strategically and to effectively prioritize and execute multiple projects are required to successfully meet project timelines. Supervisory experience and leadership skills are important to plan, oversee and evaluate the work of assigned staff. An undergraduate degree is required.
