This position will sit onsite full-time in New Haven, CT.

What you will be doing

As a key member to the Electro-Mechanical Access Control Engineering team, this role is an engaging and challenging opportunity that plays an intricate role in shaping the development of our new products. The primary role will be as the intersection of cross functional teams, combining mechanical design with electronics, wiring, testing, and industry compliance into creative and cost-effective new products.

  • Leading product design and implementation through CAD design, team reviews and discussion, prototyping, testing and validation, and production implementation using various processes including plastic and rubber injection molding, sheet metal, metal casting, and other processes.
  • Generate, initiate, and complete new product, product improvement and cost reduction ideas based on Market needs.
  • Working closely with cross functional teams incorporating electronics and wiring management into design.
  • Validating designs through theorems, tolerance stacks, and software such as FEA, as well as practical testing based on industry standards, by working closely with test engineers and understanding regulatory standards.
  • Guiding Jr. engineer through product development project, reviewing technical documentation utilizing best practices, and implementing Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing so that designs can be easily interpreted by external suppliers, and working closely with vendors to guide design into production.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering is required in order to be considered.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks CAD.
  • Expert in understanding mechanical systems with an mastery of fits, clearances, and tolerances.
  • Ability to clearly communicate through a variety of media including hand sketches, modeling, technical drawing, project summaries using written and spoken word.
  • Ability to identify the source of a problem and quickly create and test solutions.
  • Ability to lead product development projects and work closely with cross functional teams and management on large scale projects.
  • Ability to understand product requirements, set goals, and effectively guide project from start to finish to meet project deadlines.
  • Ability to guide Jr. engineer on design and project goals.
