Job Overview:

Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for an Associate Director of Philanthropy based at our hospital in Galveston, Texas. The Assistant Director of Philanthropy will serve as a fundraising professional who can secure donations from our loyal supporters to join the Office of Philanthropy.

The Associate Director of Philanthropy is responsible for identifying and cultivating prospective donors in the community, soliciting donations, and nurturing donor relationships through regular contact, communication, and recognition. For fundraising, this position also develops and maintains relationships with location-affiliated Shrine Centers, businesses, and the local community. This position requires a willingness and ability to travel and work evenings and weekends when necessary.

Responsibilities:
Working with the philanthropy team, the Associate Director of Philanthropy will implement the Shriners Childrens major giving program through a focus on individuals, corporations, and foundations. This position reports to the Senior Director of Philanthropy and works collaboratively with other Office of Philanthropy staff to elevate and grow local donations to Shriners Childrens by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting 5-figure and 6-figure gifts.
  • In collaboration with the philanthropy team, responsible for implementing the operational plans to identify and grow the number of prospective donors for annual and major giving efforts, sponsorships, and foundation gifts, through contacting individual funders and corporations/foundations for relevant information to solicit gifts, developing solicitation proposals, setting up cultivation events, and personally soliciting gifts.
  • Working in partnership with the Senior Director of Philanthropy on soliciting and growing corporate sponsorship support for the signature fundraising events and other areas projects that need funding support.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and stewards annual fund donor relationships through an assigned list of donors. Conducts personal visits and uses written communication and cultivation strategies to increase their level of support.
  • Manages assigned donors, tracks progress and results, and runs necessary reports using the Blackbaud CRM database.


Qualifications:

Experience Required:

  • 3 years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, including experience with sponsorship gifts for events and building strong relationships with individual high capacity donors.
  • A track record of successful fundraising or similar accomplishments is essential to tthis role.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required
  • Bachelors degree - or equivalent of education and experience- required.
Experience Preferred:
  • 1 year of healthcare fundraising experience preferred
  • Experience with Blackbaud CRM donor database and prospect research applications preferred (training will be provided).
Knowledge/Skills:
  • Informed and committed to the Mission and Vision of Shriners Childrens and its importance for the future.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as this individual will represent the hospital to donors, vendors, and the public and produce/edit various fundraising-related collateral.
  • Must have a positive outlook with a team-player mentality and a willingness to support other location staff as necessary, yet also be able to work independently to drive results and build relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including a high comfort level and polished maturity to communicate with donors from all lifestyles by phone, email, and face-to-face.
  • Must be able to work independently when necessary with high integrity work ethic and accountability.
