Financial Analyst/Accountant

Job Summary:

The Financial Analyst/Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, and conducting detailed financial analyses to support organizational decision-making. This hybrid role combines traditional accounting duties with advanced financial analysis to enhance financial accuracy, compliance, and strategic planning.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledger entries, financial statements, and account reconciliations.
  • Conduct detailed financial analyses, creating models to support business decisions and forecasting future financial performance.
  • Oversee the monthly accrual process for expenditures, ensuring transactions are accurately recorded and assigned to the appropriate projects and departments.
  • Prepare periodic cost reconciliation reports, tracking data such as changing labor and supply costs.
  • Analyze business and financial data, providing detailed reports on expenses, project cost breakdowns, forecasts of remaining expenses, and opportunities to increase efficiency.
  • Support tax return preparation, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Gather and compile information on processes, organizational structure, technology, policies, and procedures, identifying potential improvements to existing systems and processes.
  • Assist with audit preparations, including those related to financial and other regulatory agencies.
  • Support the implementation and post-implementation process of accounts payable automation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support accounts payable and receivable, identifying discrepancies and reconciling accounts.
  • Oversee filings for state and local sales tax agencies and support the integration of compliance software.
  • Manage fixed assets, including evaluating capital expenditures and depreciation management.
  • Analyze and review proposals related to financial accounting methods, policies, and procedures, recommending improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
  • Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Proficiency in preparing accurate tax reports.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to create financial models and perform detailed analyses.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred.
  • 3+ years of combined accounting and financial analysis experience.
  • Working knowledge of tax laws and GAAP.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
