GENERAL SUMMARY: The Director, Operations and Infrastructure for Chicago Booth Information Technology Department is primarily responsible for building and maintaining a reliable and high-performance infrastructure. This person will provide technical leadership and strategic vision for all aspects of the schools data center, systems, storage, and email for the four Chicago Booth campuses (Hyde Park, Chicago downtown, London, and Hong Kong). This role is responsible for a team of four systems administrators. Chicago Booth requires high availability and high reliability in a 24/7 operation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan, direct and manage the operation of Chicago Booths systems and network infrastructure. This includes numerous hosted Windows and Linux departmental servers, application servers, database servers, file and print servers, backup services, email servers and gateways, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
  2. Manage and maintain the enterprise storage and Storage Area Network (SAN) environment including troubleshooting, performance planning, capacity, and continuity planning.
  3. Lead in the planning, design, documentation and implementation of new systems, storage & virtualization technology.
  4. Maintain the enterprise virtualization environment (VMware), including troubleshooting, performance monitoring and optimization, capacity, high availability, and continuity planning.
  5. Maintain various cloud environments in platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Services
  6. Maintain SaaS offerings to include Office 365 and Google Workspace instances.
  7. Work with Director Applications Development to manage and maintain development, test, staging, and production environments.
  8. Maintain Booth's Disaster Recovery infrastructure and documentation, ensuring systems and applications are adequately protected according to their SLAs. Schedule, run and report on bi-annual Disaster Recovery tests.
  9. Work with Information Security Architect to maintain continuous risk assessments, reviews of critical systems, identified threats, and produce operational policies/procedures documentation.
  10. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred.
  2. A minimum of five years of experience developing others required (executive or management development, training, developmental education, counseling, coaching, or a related field) required.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) required.
  4. Outstanding verbal, written, and presentation skills, as well as organizational skills required.
  5. Ability to work independently with little supervision; possess a self-motivated disposition; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend effective changes, all while achieving key objectives resulting in desired outcomes required.
  6. Excellent strategic planning, critical thinking, analytical, and persuasion skills required.
  7. Ability to handle multiple detailed tasks/projects simultaneously and meet strict deadlines with frequent interruptions required.
  8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and diplomatically with colleagues, as well as with students, faculty and corporate contacts in a multitude of communication methods i.e., in person, email, phone required.
  9. Professional demeanor, including tact, discretion, and a customer service-oriented approach required.
