THIS IS A NEW PROMOTIONAL ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination will cancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can be extended. Qualified applicants must be current county employees and have completed, by the last day for filing, the equivalent of six months of continuous service following a regular appointment in the Alameda County classified service. A regular appointment does not include provisional, TAP (Temporary Assignment Pool), or STEP-UP appointments.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must be submitted with each application. Failure to submit the Application or Supplemental Questionnaire will result in disqualification.

DESCRIPTION
THE AGENCY
Alameda County General Services Agency (GSA) delivers a host of logistical support services to County agencies and partners from maintenance of facilities and County fleet to energy and environmental management services, capital project management, procurement services, and clean commute and recycling programs. The GSA Community strives not only to provide these services but to also facilitate collaborative and innovative approaches in its efforts. THE POSITION
Under general direction, to supervise the work of Carpenters, Locksmiths, Painters, Building Maintenance Workers and others as assigned to carpentry, painting, remodeling and maintenance tasks; and to do related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Either I:
Experience:
The equivalent of two years' full-time experience as a Carpenter, Locksmith or Painter in the Alameda County classified service. (Non-classified includes District Attorney's Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts.)
Completion of the Alameda County Management Academy "Management and Supervision Certificate Program" may substitute for six (6) months of the required qualifying experience.
Or II:
Experience:
The equivalent of five years' full-time experience performing project management of journey-level carpentry, painting and/or locksmithing maintenance and remodels which demonstrate possession of the knowledge and abilities listed below. Two years of this experience must include full-time supervisory experience.
License:
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance.
Must be on call after hours, weekend and holidays.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The most suitably qualified candidates will possess the following competencies:
Knowledge of:
- Modern methods, materials, and equipment used in rough and finished carpentry, cabinetmaking, and related construction and maintenance crafts.
- Methods, tools and equipment used in the painting trade including color matching and paper hanging.
- Methods, materials and tools used in locksmithing.
- Safety practices including rigging and the use of scaffolds.
- Injury and illness prevention programs and occupational health and safety practices, Life Safety codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
- Building, hospital and jail regulations and codes and the ability to research and appropriately apply them.
- Uniform Building Codes, ADA and OSHA guidelines.
- Project management of small, multi-disciplinary tenant improvement projects.
- Basic computer software, i.e., Word, Outlook and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Manage and schedule jobs.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Plan, supervise, review and evaluate the work of others.
- Estimate costs.
- Maintain accurate records, plan and lay out work, including preparation of working drawings and sketches, carpentry, cabinet making and related construction and maintenance crafts.
- Work harmoniously with maintenance personnel in scheduling and completing carpentry, painting, locksmithing-tasks with a general understanding of electrical and mechanical support as it relates to building maintenance.

The examination will consist of the following steps:
- A review of applicants' applications and supplemental questionnaires to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the classification will move on to the next step in the examination process.
- An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidate's final examination score. The oral examination may contain situational exercises.
