Ultium Cells Overview: Ultium Cells is a joint venture Lithium-Ion Automotive Battery Cell Manufacturing plant between LG Chem and General Motors. This new construction high-technology plant will have the latest Battery Cell manufacturing technology. The investment in this new business venture represents a commitment of more than $2.3 Billion. It will be among the largest Battery Cell Manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce Battery Cells for General Motors North American electric vehicle applications. The Ultium cell partners include LG Chem; the world’s largest manufacturer of Automotive Battery Cells in the world and General Motors a global company committed to delivering safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around. Position Description: Selected candidates will have the opportunity to learn new skills as well as influencing the development of battery cell manufacturing processes to support this historical and game-changing progression to battery electric propulsion. In this role your responsibilities will be of a technical nature with decisions made within the limits of general practices, policies and standards. Your work will involve complex manufacturing problems including the need to root cause and follow issues to resolution. Execute APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) process with those Suppliers assigned to meet or exceed program work. Execute program reviews to program milestones and escalate issues appropriately. Ensure supply base adheres to Ultium Cells’ standards, quality and manufacturing processes. Identify out of standard conditions while preventing them to move to the next process or manufacturing site. React to out of standard conditions and work cross functionally to resolve known issues in a timely manner. Day to Day Responsibilities: Uphold Ultium’s vision, values, and cultural behaviors and make customer-focused decisions Support day-to-day Quality Operations through Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environmental directives to help the plant achieve defined metrics. Interface and collaborate with our LGES partners with raw material and formula changes to help drive the best-in-class battery cell quality, leveraging the strengths of both the parent companies of the JV. Work closely with Incoming Quality Control Team and Global Supply Chain, including coordination to return product to Supplier when required. Act as single point contact for all Ultium Supplier quality issues while working closely with Suppliers to maintain strong relationships. Initiate conference calls with Suppliers to establish containment breakpoints and certified material shipments to assembly centers as needed. Assure Supplier understanding and compliance with APQP processes and product PPAP submission and approval requirements. Implement and monitor Supplier part qualification and certification processes (PPAP, Run at Rate). Reviewing and approving Supplier quality plans (Control Plans, PFMEA) related to material, product, and process changes for battery cells. Review Supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems, and complete assessments of each Supplier as required. Facilitate root cause analysis and corrective actions of Supplier quality issues Host on-site Supplier visits for root cause analysis and verification of correction actions of Supplier quality issues (for domestic suppliers) Coordinate with Korea SQA for verification of corrective actions of Supplier Quality issues (for overseas suppliers) and approve the audit results. Issue and review cost recoveries for Suppliers Monitor and approve controlled shipping requests. Follow-up on open items as needed and verify corrective actions before closing Supplier issue. Analyze supplier performance trends, and review warranty data for emerging issues related to SQ. Work with Supplier to develop containment, identify root cause, and implement corrective actions, for Supplier issues impacting cell manufacturing as well as vehicle module build and emerging warranty issues. Work with engineering and other quality team members for product/cell/lot disposition for units built with defective material. Attend Fast Response meetings when required to review with Plant Teams on corrective actions implemented by Suppliers. Improve quality performance of suppliers by

conducting/supporting

onsite workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a robust quality system, or other technical support as required. Support Plant Supplier Symposiums. Provide technical assistance during supplier launch, change-over and ongoing production activities. Attend Readiness meetings and assist in Supplier related issues. Analyze Supplier performance trends Participate in the Short Lead Time Basket Weave. Field various questions from all levels and areas of leadership for various emerging issues. Attend various ad hoc meetings, and create reports as required. Required Skills and Abilities: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or a Technical/Business field (Engineering is preferred). 0 to 3 yrs. direct quality experience in a multi-shift manufacturing environment, preferred Travel will be required up to 20% of the time to supplier locations with some international travel possibly required. Multi-lingual (Korean/English) desired Knowledge of quality and ISO 9000/IATF 16949 standards, policies, and procedures Strong structured problem-solving skills- (RedX, Shainin, OpEx, Six Sigma or similar training) Comprehension of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments Knowledgeable in GD&T, geometric design, specification reading, and PPAP processes Knowledgeable in part measurement, gage design, and function. High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult Ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent Oral and Written Communication Skills Excellent relationship building skills (critical in the JV environment) High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others and motivate Suppliers.
