A Tool & Die Maker III is expected to plan, design, construct, fabricate, modify, and repair tooling such as jigs, fixtures, gages, and dies.

Purpose:

  • Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.
  • Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and veneer calipers.
  • Checks work pieces to ensure they are properly lubricated and cooled.
  • Dismantles machines or equipment using hand and power tools to examine parts for defects and replaces defective parts as needed.
  • Fits and assembles parts to make or repair machine tools.
  • Lays out, measures, and marks metal stock to display placement of cuts.
  • Maintains industrial machines and applies knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Measures, examines, and tests completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
Job Responsibilities:
  • New Product Development: Create/Design/Program according to Tool Room Requests and/or Production Work Orders.
  • Design/Build/Repair: Create/Design/Repair fixtures and jigs for other departments.
  • Communication: Communicate with various individuals on status updates (engineers, programmers, leaders).
  • Support Commercial/Mission Requirements: Follow guidelines/requirements provided in Tool Room Requests and/or Production Work Orders.
  • Machine TPM: Maintain machine according to maintenance preventative program.
  • Raw Material Management: Request/Manage raw material as needed.
Technical Skills:
  • Basic PC skill
  • CNC programming skills including but not limited to setting-up and operating WinMax.
  • Extensive Knowledge of Manual Machining, CNC Mills, Lathes, Grinders.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • HS diploma with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 4 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. Collins Aerospace will not offer sponsorship for this position.
  • Prior relevant experience in machining or programming role required.
Preferred Qualifications:

This is an advanced level position in a manufacturing environment, prefer 8 years relevant experience.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

  • The salary range for this role is $29.34 to $39.70. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
