Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Underwriter I - PL is responsible for accepting business into the organization by reviewing and evaluating Personal Lines applications for property insurance for acceptability and pricing decisions utilizing various underwriting tools, technology and resources in accordance with approved underwriting guidelines and standards

The selected candidate must live within a commutable distance (approximately 50 miles) to Citizens Jacksonville, FL or Tallahassee, FL office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Models ethical behavior and executes job responsibilities in accordance with Citizens core values, ethics, and information protection policies.
  • Review & underwrite complex Property & Casualty policy applications, renewal activities, restrictions, and cancellations to determine risk acceptability, pricing and coverage within underwriting authority and corporate underwriting guidelines and standards.
  • Provide complex technical advice, training and support to agents and other internal and external stakeholders to promote consistent risk-based underwriting philosophy in all products and activities regarding the company's policies, coverages, guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensure a high level of data integrity through consistent and continual risk analysis by using data analytics, renewal underwriting, post loss reviews and collaboration with other departments throughout the organization.
  • Monitor trends and provide feedback for process improvement opportunities and participate in underwriting related projects, committees or special assignments as requested by management
  • Handle underwriting specific Tier II telephone calls referred from the Customer Care Center as well as vendors.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Proficiency in MS Office: Word, Outlook & Excel
  • Ability to analyze and interpret insurance coverage, policies, procedures and reports.
  • Proficient in P&C Technical Knowledge.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma | GED
  • Associate/Technical Degree OR 2 years relevant experience, OR a combination of both college and experience equivalent to 2 years
  • Additional education may count towards experience.
AND
  • 2 or more years' experience in property insurance operations, claims, agency or call center, 2 years of which can be substituted by a Bachelors in Risk Management or business-related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 4 or more years of experience in property insurance operations, claims, agency or call center
  • Knowledge of Citizens UW procedures, manuals, policy administration and workflow
  • CPCU designation or IIA Certificate in General Insurance
  • Bachelor's Degree in business administration or risk
Percentage of time is accountable for transactional, day to day operational support: 100%
