About The Position

This is a full-time position in Purple Strategies' Communications Expertise Group. The purpose of the Communications EG is to shape what's said when our clients talk and when the world talks about them. Priorities of this EG include:
  • Delivering consistent communications plans, audience-facing deliverables and media materials
  • Providing strategic counsel to internal teams and clients and coaching for client executives
  • Providing expertise and materials needed to activate campaign plans
The Manager is responsible for working closely with a client team to support the development and implementation of successful communications strategies to achieve campaign objectives. This is a great position for a candidate who considers themselves a communications professional, regardless of whether their experience is with speechwriting, earned media, digital content creation, or even internal and executive comms. The perfect candidate is an excellent writer who has media savviness and experience to write compelling content that is newsworthy and lives across channels.

In This Position, You Will
  • Support the crafting and delivery of persuasive messaging and related collateral materials from unique, insights informed strategy.
  • Support strategic communications planning initiatives that incorporate traditional and digital communications channels and platforms and third-party engagement.
  • Take the pen on high-quality written deliverables, such as talking points & Q&As, speeches, op-ed, press releases, blog posts, client memos and presentations (often) under tight timelines.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of editorial calendars to guide a client's communications strategy.
  • Support the delivery of client's rapid response content needs during urgent news events.
  • Research and draft potential pitch stories and targets to drive coverage around campaigns and initiatives.
  • Research media outlets and journalists and support the process of preparing key stakeholders for interviews.
  • Engage with or conduct media monitoring to ensure all key internal and client stakeholders are aware of coverage and news cycles, to identify risks and opportunities in the news cycle and assist in drafting and coordinating responses as required.
Qualifications and Experience You Need To Be Successful In This Role
  • Bachelor's degree and recommended 5+ years of communications experience with political/issue advocacy campaigns and federal, state, or local government, and/or public affairs or public relations agency, and/or corporate communications team.
  • Exceptional writing skills and unrelenting attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Appetite for news and ability to deconstruct and shape stories; eagerness to work with media.
  • Self-starter eager to take on projects and deliver work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively, independently and in a team environment.

Work Location

This is a full-time position based in either our Alexandria, VA headquarters or our Chicago office.
