Wingbeat Movement Arts is looking for a
Director of Development and Fundraising
About Wingbeat
Wingbeat is a startup multidisciplinary dance company expanding the horizons of the San Diego dance community. With exquisite artists from a variety of backgrounds, and values firmly rooted in collective liberation, Wingbeat provides performances and community education in aerial dance, modern dance, movement arts, and the creative process.
Our intent
is to inspire wonder and curiosity in our community so that imaginations take flight and expand the collective understanding of what people are capable of in our bodies, communities, and environments.
Our mission
is to provide venues for our community to explore the creative process and experience the magic of modern dance, aerial dance, improvisational dance, and embodied movement studies, through performances and community education.
Our organizational values
include
Artwork is valuable work; artists deserve a living wage.
Stories, ideas, and experiences shared by marginalized people are essential to cultivating an equitable society
Art makes life work living even in the hardest times. All people, regardless of socioeconomic status, should have access to art as both audience and creators.
Dance is an essential part of the cultural landscape and, as one of the oldest art forms, an essential part of what it means to be human.
Bodies hold stories, memories, and ancestral knowledge. Movement arts are a culturally necessary medium for sharing the stories and wisdom held in our bodies.
Improvisation is an art form in and of itself. It makes space for dancers to showcase their own artistry beyond the choreography of directors.
All bodies are beautiful. We honor the diversity of forms, expressions, and abilities.
Humans are a natural part of the Earth's ecosystem and we all have a responsibility to work toward a future where we live in harmony with one another and the planet. This will only be possible through a combination of collective liberation and connection with the land.
About the Position
The primary responsibilities of the Director of Development and Fundraising are to lead and supervise the organization’s fundraising operations and networking including:
Working with the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director to establish and check in on short-term and long-term financial needs and goals for the organization.
Develop and carry out strategic plans to meet short-term financial needs and long-term financial goals
Establish ongoing partnerships with sponsors
Grants- find applicable grant funding opportunities. Write and file grant applications with input from the Executive Director. Track grants applied for, received, and reporting requirements. In partnership with the CFO and ED, ensure grant funds are used appropriately and that all reporting is done accurately and in a timely manner.
Stay in touch with existing donors and patrons to foster relationships, and seek out new donors and patrons through existing contacts and networking.
Plan fundraisers and campaigns to meet revenue goals. These can include online pledge initiatives, sponsorships and sales of advertising, auctions, sales of goods, soliciting donations of goods and services, and running events that generate revenue.
Create and maintain a database of potential, current, and past donors. Use this database to maintain relationships with donors to cultivate donor loyalty.
Launch public marketing campaigns about both fundraising and also about the overall organization and its events and mission.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in fundraising and development for nonprofits, experience with successful startup organizations, a love for the arts, and values deeply rooted in equity and inclusivity.
