Job Title: Automation Service Specialist

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Automation Service Specialist understands the design and intent of mechanical equipment and systems (Chiller, Boiler, Custom AHU's, Primary/Secondary pumping, Variable flow Chilled water plants, Clean Room Applications, Demand Response, and Energy solutions).
  • Works with the Automation Service Manger to propose assigned work and identify business opportunities.
  • Analyze systems and assist in the development of scope of work for controls implementation.
  • Lead on all aspects of assigned projects. Including: Design, Graphics, Programming, Start-up, Commissioning, and As-builts.
  • Ensure profitability on assigned projects as well as assigned service contracts and identify potential hazards prior to financial slippage.
  • Monitor, identify and diagnose potential problems using computer workstations and on-site observations.
  • Interface with customers, engineers, and contractors to install and service building automation systems
  • Lead customer training on assigned projects.
  • Work with service coordinator to fulfill emergency service requests during normal business hours and on an on-call basis.
  • Lead technical and programming efforts on small/large enterprise multi-site accounts.
  • Maintain relationships with customers on assigned accounts.
  • Ensure successful warranty turnover on assigned projects.
  • Partner with customers as trusted technical advisor
  • Function as technical and programming lead on assigned service projects and PM accounts.
  • Partner with project and service team to delegate tasks as needed to ensure successful project execution
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and technical assistance to field staff and customers.
  • Partner with the design and graphical team and make recommendations to improve customer deliverables and process efficiencies.
  • Able to locate defective or non-operational components in new and existing systems, using test equipment and programming expertise.
Job Specifications (incl. Education requirements, minimal experience, computer skills required, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (preferably Electrical or Mechanical) or equivalent field experience.
  • 3+ years of field and direct automation experience (BAS) with control systems and programming required.
  • Engineering knowledge of electronics, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, or computer programming is required.
  • Knowledge of DDC Control Theory, BACnet, LON, and Modbus. Strong integration knowledge of LON, BACnet, Modbus, and proprietary systems a plus
  • Control systems product line knowledge with ALC, Alerton, Delta, Distech, Honeywell, JCI, Loytec, Niagara, or Trane a plus.
  • Ability to interface with customers at a supervisory and management level.
  • Good computer skills, understanding of controls networking.
  • Knowledge of BAS analytics and/or fault detection & diagnostics (FDD) software platforms a plus.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Visio a plus.
  • CEM certification or equivalent a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A valid driver's license.
