Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is an essential part of the company's financial management team, supervising and mentoring the Accounting Staff, confirming the accuracy of their staff's accounting, providing recommendations for improving accounting methods, analyzing information and assisting in the supervision and evaluation of organizational systems for gathering data, and all accounting reports produced. The Accounting Manager reports to the Controller, and coordinates with the Assistant Controller, in support of all Accounting responsibilities.

An important part of the Accounting Manager's role is understanding all types of financial operations at the company and how they work together, to reconcile the Income Statement activity with the Balance Sheet, support Treasury, Cost Reporting, Audits, Field Exams, etc, and provide reporting and analysis.

Accounting Managers also make suggestions on a company's overall strategies to meet goals concerning its financial health, since they are the first analytical line of defense regarding financial metrics.

Very importantly, the Accounting Manager must be a good communicator, since they mentor and supervise the Accounting Staff, bridge the gap between the Accountants and upper financial management, other functional leaders and Operators. Thus the Accounting Manager must explain things clearly in both layman and professional terms for broader understanding among all workers, must organize the work in a fair and effective manner, must constantly review processes to make them more effective, and must set clear goals and expectations for the Accounting staff, in order to meet Accounting deadlines with accuracy and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

Full cycle accounting for 8-9 facilities

Supervise and mentor the Accountants, especially new staff.

Coordinate with Assistant Controller, Controller and CFO for all Accounting activity and deadlines.

Help manage and oversee the daily operations of the accounting department including:
•Ensure that Accounting deadlines are met.
•Lead Accountants through Monthly, Quarterly and year-end Closing process
•Lead Accountants through Monthly, Quarterly and Year-end Balance sheet reconciliations
•Lead Accountants through General ledger accuracy and reconciliation
•Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies and principles.
•Provide process improvement recommendations.
•Improve systems and procedures and initiate corrective actions.
•Expenditure reconciliation and variance analysis, to ensure accurate monthly accounting
•Monitor and analyze accounting data and produce financial reports or statements.
•Coordinate and complete audits
•Reconcile and update Fixed asset activity
•Updating and maintaining chart of accounts in GP
•Creating and modifying reports in MR
•Monitoring and creating reports in Workday
•Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
•Bank deposits & Coding.
•Bank wires & ACH setup and approvals.
•Attend to any adhoc Accounting or Reporting requests from upper management, in a timely fashion, while allocating tasks among all staff, and balancing other priorities

Lead and coordinate Accountant participation in the Annual Budget process
•Check that budget inputs are correct
•Check that budget outputs make sense

•Ability to manipulate, analyze and synthesize large amounts of data, in order to report key metrics accurately and in an actionable manner
•Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, and regulations
•High attention to detail and accuracy
•Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills
•Ability to direct, supervise and mentor in a constructive, positive and effective manner.
•Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
•Ability to problem-solve and think for oneself.
•Ability to prioritize, collaborate and communicate candidly and clearly.
•Ability to work under stressful conditions, while maintaining and projecting calm
•Positive, can-do attitude, to inspire staff to attain team and/or company goals.

Education
•BS degree in Accounting, or Accounting focus in related BS degree.
