Summary

The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing indirect tax returns including property, sales, use and excise taxes, ensuring PILOT payments are issued and reconciling general ledger accounts related to renewable energy assets for customers.Experience with supporting and managing customers with large portfolios and their associated tax requirements. In addition, they will be responsible for compliance and financial reporting for state and local income taxes, as necessary.

Primary Duties

Prepare and file indirect tax returns for multiple entities, including property, sales, use and excise tax returns. Reconcile indirect tax accounts in the general ledger. Manage compliance and payments for PILOT agreements Prepare resale and exemption certificates Resolve external and internal sales tax inquiries. Effectively communicate with internal staff and taxing authorities on tax matters. Support various tax audits. Perform tax research on a broad range of topics and deliver clear communication of findings Develop and maintain tax procedure documentation. Recommend process improvements to streamline compliance.

Working Relationships

The Senior Tax Analyst reports to the Project Accounting Manager and does not have direct reports

Compensation

The initial compensation range for this position is $77,600 to $103,000

Job Qualifications:

Five years of experience in multi-state tax compliance for renewable energy projects Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or advanced degree a plus Technical knowledge of property, sales, use and excise tax concepts and compliance best practices Technical knowledge of multi-state tax concepts and compliance best practices Strong tax research skills and ability to communicate results in both written and verbal forms Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines Strong organizational skills Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to effectively problem solve and make decisions Knowledge of tax software and accounting systems Strong MS Office skills

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Normal working hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional time may be required during periods of high workload to meet deadlines. This role requires the ability to sit/stand at a desk, use a computer workstation, handle long periods of screen time, and communicate verbally and in writing
