Pluto Train 2 is the expansion of a second LNG train at the existing Pluto LNG onshore facility near Karratha in Western Australia run by Woodside Energy. Pluto Train 2 will process Scarborough gas and have an LNG capacity of ~5 million tonnes per annum. As part of the construction of Pluto Train 2, additional domestic gas infrastructure will be installed to increase capacity to ~225 Terajoules per day. Woodside Energy has selected Bechtel to deliver the Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning scope of work for Pluto Train 2. Woodside Energy is Australia's leading natural gas producer, and Bechtel is excited to be working with this key customer to help meet the increasing global demand for LNG as a transitional energy source. Job Summary: As Mechanical Field Engineer - Rotating, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. This is a FIFO role working 3:1 roster, based in Karratha, WA. Major Responsibilities: Prepares construction drawings and sketches. Facilitates planning construction methods and procedures. Interprets mechanical design drawings, codes and specifications, equipment installation, and field verification of materials. Material Management Initiates requisitions for field purchases Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment. Quantities Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required. Reporting on daily and weekly installed quantities to Project Controls. Safety / Quality Control Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely. Perform quality control inspections and manage associated Inspection and Test Records (ITRs). Ensure completed work packages and ITRs are submitted to Turnover. Technical Proactively considers continuous learning or show interest to pursue appropriate learning activities Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development. Education and Experience Requirements: Requires bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be familiar with internationally accepted mechanical codes and standards (e.g. – Australian Codes and Standards, API, and ASME) Compressor, generator, turbine - installs, inspections, servicing, and alignments knowledge Pump installs, inspections, servicing, and alignments knowledge Knowledge of Flange face machining. Fin fan cooler motors - new installs, shaft bearings installs & replacements, alignments. Along with Cooler fan shroud setup & blade pitch angles adjustments knowledge. Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations. Understands the application of Engineering Department Procedures, relevant Bechtel design guides. Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials. Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design including appropriate knowledge of CAD (both 2-D and 3-D), CAE and relevant Bechtel Standard Computer Applications, to perform the work. Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved. Understanding of relevant industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria. Able to work night shift and day shift when the business need arises (Note – this role is primarily assigned to night shift) Working Rights in Australia without employer sponsorship are required. We are a 2024 Circle Back Initiative Employer & commit to respond to every applicant. #LI-JC1 Additional Information This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction and/or operations site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, variable work shifts (e.g., day, night, weekends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd shift, etc.), and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.). The Pluto Train 2 Project is a Major Hazard Facility meaning this is a non-smoking site and no tobacco products – i.e. cigarettes, vapes, lighters, tobacco - are permitted to be brought to the site. This position is available to both local and non-local personnel. For non-locals (FIFO/DIDO), the working roster is 3/1.
