Description

Purpose of Position

The Activity Center Manager is a full-time, permanent position in the Oxford Park Commission. This position is responsible for managing the operation of all activities held at the Oxford Activity Center and the Coach Howell Activity Center.

Supervision Received

The immediate supervisor for this position is the Deputy Director.

Supervision Exercised

Will assist with the supervision of part-time activity center staff.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate all activities and events at both centers
  • Coordinate programs within the centers with professional staff
  • Supervise the part-time operations on a daily basis
  • Ensure that the building is maintained properly
  • Communicate between part-time staff and full-time staff
  • Coordinate and schedule activities, programs, meetings, etc.
  • Take inventory of equipment used in the facility
  • Hire, train, and schedule part-time Activity Center Assistants
  • Balance front desk duties between self and part-time workers
  • Follow and enforce Activity Center Rules and Regulations
  • Supervise day to day activities
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide administrative assistance when needed
  • Address customer questions and complaints
  • Answer departmental telephone and direct calls
  • Solve problems as they arise
  • Work closely with the OPC Programming Staff
  • Work closely with the Deputy Director
  • Maintain accurate records for reports to the Executive Director, Park Commission Board and Mayor and Board of Aldermen
  • Assist in coordinating programs when needed
  • Perform other duties as directed
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of sports activities and programs
  • Knowledge of the community, its recreational interests and needs
  • Knowledge of computers
  • General office practices and procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • General knowledge of operation of municipal government
  • Knowledge of federal and state statues concerning the work of the department
Skills and Abilities:
  • Know how to operate floor-cleaning machine
  • Use basic office equipment (computer, copier, fax machine, etc.)
  • Work as a team member with other employees
  • Make decisions within specified time restraints
  • Communicate effectively with residents, elected officials, other city employees, etc., both oral and written
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Work autonomously when needed
  • Communicate with others in a professional manner
  • Handle multiple tasks with interruptions
  • Maintain professional composure in heated situations
  • Follow departmental and city procedures
  • Learn to operate security software
