Job Description Summary

The Center for Civics, Culture and Society Director will be responsible for: overseeing the establishment of the Center, the recruitment, appointment, onboarding, and ongoing supervision of at least 10 tenure-track faculty members and additional staff who will hold their appointments within the center, and including facilitating joint appointments with other departments at the University as appropriate, developing and promoting the curriculum, programming, and other activities of the center, building relationships with key internal and external interested parties regarding center operations overseeing and adhering to a budget for center operations, serving as a faculty member and meeting all faculty obligations, providing an annual report on the center’s development and operations to the Board of Trustees and Ohio General Assembly
Job Description

The Director will be responsible for:

In addition, the Director will be expected to:

Leverage the University’s already impressive faculty resources in civic research, teaching and engagement; integrate and institutionalize the Center’s curricular offerings within the University’s broader course and degree portfolios (so as to maximize the reach and impact of the Center’s work); coordinate the Center’s co-curricular and experiential learning-based programming with complementary programs and initiatives staged by the Menard Family Center for Democracy, the JANUS Forum, and other relevant university units.
Education and Experience Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree.
Record of outstanding scholarly achievement that would meet expectations for tenure.
Consideration will be given to applicants who have:

Leadership and administrative ability.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with others to identify opportunities for growth and leverage resources in a complex organization.
Experience in developing and running programming centered around democracy and civic engagement.
Demonstrated ability or potential for fundraising in both the private and public sectors.
Demonstrated commitment to the Center’s mission
Additional Position Information (if applicable)

The max salary posted represents the base pay for a nine month faculty position plus a 20% stipend for serving as the Director and two months of summer pay. The Director has the ability to receive up to three months of summer salary, equivalent to 1/3 of the base salary through grants. The Director will be provided one month of summer salary as part of this position and for the first two years of the appointment the Director will be allocated a second month of salary as they build the program. They will always have the ability to raise up to a total of three months through grants or contracts. If for some reason the successful candidate no longer holds the Director position they would go back to the faculty and the stipend and summer pay would be removed.
