Responsibilities:The Financial Advocate participates in the Hospitals effort to maximize revenues by determining and entering the patients financial status, verifying insurance coverage, as well as reviewing admission information for completeness and accuracy within the electronic health record (EHR).. Obtains all required information, collects and/or creates a plan for payment with the responsible parties to include assisting patients to complete the applications for the NYS Health Exchange coverages including Medicaid and/or for the organizations Charity Care program when appropriate for all patients.

The compensation range for the role is $22.82-$23.51 hourly.
Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team members compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).
Qualifications:Minimum Education: HS diploma or equivalent required
Minimum Experience: Two to three years related experiences in patient billing, payment arrangements, authorizations and insurances. Articulate verbal ability required to discuss personal and financial matters regarding assistance. Experience in healthcare field is required. Must be computer software and hardware literate. Preferably bi-lingual.
Required Certification/Registration: CAC Certification required within 1 year of hire. Must maintain certification thereafter for the duration of employment.
Physical Requirements: Position will primarily be light work requiring lifting up to 25 pounds with occasional lifting and/or lifting objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Occasional bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling and reaching is required. Requires 80% sitting and 20% standing or walking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word; required.
Working Conditions:
Regular contact with individuals under stress. Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and/or travel to other sites including patient homes as necessary.
Mental Demands: Ability to work under pressure and simultaneously foster collaborative relationships, organize and synthesize new information and prioritize work. Project a positive, supporting and mentoring approach with co-workers while under pressure and holding each other accountable.
