Qualified candidates will possess a servant's heart, and the ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner, and be able to address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner.EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana, CPR certified.ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to communicate effectively in a variety of situations including life threatening situations.Excellent interpersonal skillsAbility to prioritize and triage based on acuityAbility to multi-task in a fast paced environmentAbility to discern, understand and communicate school specific health regulations and standardsOrganization and administrative abilitiesAbility to work with confidential and sensitive information with respect to HPPA guidelinesComfortable providing basic nursing skills with thorough chartingAbility to provide nursing care for students with chronic childhood illness including diabetes and asthmaProficient in providing nursing care for students ranging from preschool age to teensMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Assess health status of students by means of total health assessment.Implement first aid and care of the sick or injured according to physician approved medical treatment protocol.Utilize reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.Uphold and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, school board and state board of health policy.Update school health records as needed on shift.Administer medication pursuant to students' school health records/orders.Maintain Security of school health supplies.Serve as a resource person on health issues.Monitor the immunization status of all students.Communicate with parents as needed on health needs of students.The above description covers the most significant duties performed, but does not restrict the administration's right to assign or reassign other reasonable duties, responsibilities, or expectations to this job at any time, with or without advance notice.The information contained in the job description is for compliance with the American with Disabilities Act and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.Additional duties are performed by the individual currently holding this position and additional duties may be assigned.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.Position involves sitting at a computer and typing.Requires standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movement, simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine motor and gross motor skills, bending, lifting, squatting, kneeling, climbing and reaching.Ability to lift patients as required.WORK ENVIRONMENT:School nursing office, use of computer/monitor screen; generally works alone.Noise level is typically low with the exception of times between class periods.
