The User Research Principal is the senior most practitioner on the user research team. This role conducts research but also contributes to standards and strategy for the overall user research practice. The principal serves as mentor to user researchers on the team and will be skilled and interested in growing others. This role is a resident expert for qualitative research methods and best practices. The principal can draw on years of experience with digital design and consumer behavior to comfortably consult with digital project teams, providing expertise outside of an active research study. The principal will partner with UX design and content strategists, Digital Product Owner, business, and technology to design custom research for discovery, usability testing, user interviews, persona use, field studies, leveraging data analytics, competitive reviews, heuristics, and other types of research.

**The Work Itself**

* Partner with Research Managers to maintain and continuously improve operations for our robust internal user research practice

* Coach and lead researchers in the practice to ensure research design delivers accurate, relevant, and thorough results

* Draw attention to the broader end-to-end experience around the digital design to ensure most effective designs and best customer experience

* Understand business strategy and desired business outcomes on a project-to-project basis and help to translate this for other researchers on the team

* In UX or partner interactions be the advocate and expert on user behavior in the digital space

* Design, execute, analyze, and report out on research projects as well as manage some ongoing research programs supporting special initiatives

* Effectively communicate research findings and facilitate research-based decision making.

* Understand and apply personas and customer journey maps to your work and coach others to do the same

* Leverage insights and data from other internal Ally teams or 3rd parties to enhance the research you and other members of our team deliver

**The Skills You Bring**

* Bachelors degree in Human Factors Engineering, Usability/Research, UX, CX, Business Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human Computer Science, Professional Writing or other related discipline, Masters preferred

* 5-10+ years of user research experience with demonstrated expertise in the design, execution, analysis, and report out on research projects

* 5+ years of experience leading a research practice, including responsibility for physical or virtual research spaces, vendor contract management and client relationships, management of complex project and deliverables, and leading a team
