About the Role
The Accounting Manager - Anchorage is responsible for the budgets and monthly expense variance analysis for the Anchorage terminal and Alaska Railbelt operations. This person directly manages the union accounting clerical staff at the Anchorage terminal and provides direct support to the management team to determine cost allocations, budget planning, and capital expense review. Heavy emphasis on managing people and leading a diverse accounting team. Responsible for the effective and efficient use of financial systems for Alaska.
What you'll do:
* Review and approve expenditures, coding, accounting, and associated functions.
* Primary backup to the Accounting Manager of Dutch Harbor and Kodiak.
* Develop, implement, and maintain the corporate and division accounting standards and procedures.
* Review and approve accounts payable invoices and payroll for the Anchorage location.
* Develop operating and overhead budgets for the Anchorage terminal and the Alaska railbelt operations.
* Provide financial review and analysis for Anchorage management and collaborate with other Matson locations.
* Direct and monitor the activities of the office clerical staff including managing the vacation calendar, office schedule, and overtime bids.
* Participate in office clerical hiring and training to ensure adequate office coverage.
* Manage clerical staff within the guidelines of the union contract.
* Participate in contract negotiations by providing administrative and financial analysis.
* Take lead on all union pension audits for Anchorage.
* Understand operational cost drivers.
* Protect confidential information and comply with SOX.
* Other projects or duties as assigned.

And these qualifications:
* College degree in accounting or management field or five (5) years' equivalent experience with knowledge of cost accounting and budgeting.
* Three (3) to five (5) years' previous management experience leading and directing a team.
* Current on the latest developments in the technical and functional field of accounting.
* Excellent computer proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Extra credit if you have:
* Prior experience working with a union workforce and an understanding of collective bargaining agreements.
* Prior experience working with an operations team.
