Job Description: The IV Team Tech is responsible for assisting RNs with central line procedures, placing PIVs, drawing labs, department stocking, data entry into Peripheral IV Database, participation in patient charging and patient charting. This position will work Nights, 6pm to 6am. Patient Care: Assists IV Team RNs with central line procedures such as placing PICC lines, dressing changes, port access and central line repairs. Responds to emergency patient care for venous access (Code Blue, ED code sepsis) Collects blood specimens ensuring proper collection techniques, use of correct vacutainers and specimen labeling. Places peripheral IVs per Intermountain and National Infusion Nurses Society guidelines. Enters peripheral IV statistics into peripheral IV database. This includes peripheral IV attempts and number of patient's previous IVs. Charts procedures per Intermountain policy. Initiates charging process by proper utilization of IV Team charging/data collection document. Ensures storage room is stocked and maintains peripheral IV and PICC carts to make sure they are stocked appropriately. Assesses supplies for expiration dates. Determines when stock is low and requests additional supplies. Utilizes Zero Harm techniques and Intermountain Healing Commitments to ensure a safe and extraordinary patient experience. Provides excellent customer service when responding to patient/family requests. Collaboration: Collaborates and consults with IV Team RN, child life and other members of the interdisciplinary team for best patient care. Demonstrates effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization. Participates in and may lead IV Team process improvement initiatives. Participates in the training and orientation of new IV Team techs, residents and Intermountain staff who shadow the IV Team. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED in compliance with CLIA regulations. Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment under stressful situations. and - Demonstrated self-motivated and able to work independently. and - Demonstrated basic computer skills. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to teach concepts to others. Patient Care experience in a medical setting Physical Requirements: Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information. and - Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. and - Walking at rapid pace for extended periods of time while transporting/pushing procedural carts. and - Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer or other equipment.
