Mountain View, United States Waymo Full time

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with a mission to make it safe and easy for people and things to get where theyre going. Since our start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has been focused on building the Worlds Most Experienced Driver in hopes of improving the world's access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. Our Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, our fully autonomous ride-hailing service, as well as Waymo Via, our trucking and local delivery service. To date, Waymo has driven over 20 million miles autonomously on public roads across 25 U.S. cities and conducted over 20 billion miles of simulation testing.

We are looking for a passionate engineering manager who wants to evolve the systems that manage and optimize Waymos core ride hailing service, and grow our diverse group of talented Software Engineers.

The ideal candidate is someone who can be self-sufficient and product-minded, and values collaboration, inclusion, and diversity. You will be working on cross-cutting problems that will require strong cross-team collaboration, partnering with mobile app/UX and onboard planning & routing teams to build solutions that span the full stack of Waymo's software systems, including the mobile app, cloud backends, and the Waymo Driver.

Impact potential: As Waymo gets closer to its goal, the ride-hailing product offering becomes an increasingly critical area of investment for the company. Your teams systems will be a pillar of Waymos ability to offer this service to customers and key to the end-to-end rider experience.

Growth potential: Increasing demand for Waymos ride-hailing service will drive significant team growth; constant new challenges provide an opportunity-rich environment to solve hard, ambiguous, cross-functional problems.

In this TLM / Eng Manager role, youll:

* Help build and evolve key ride-hailing backend systems (routing and scheduling, customer and trip management, billing and payment, analysis and experimentation)

* Manage team of 10+ SWEs / UX engineers who value diversity, equity, and inclusion

* Manage individual projects priorities, deadlines and deliverables with your technical expertise

* Collaborate with Product, UX, and other engineering teams to develop systems and processes as business needs grow and evolve

At a minimum wed like you to have:

* 2+ years experience managing a team

* 6+ years experience working with backend tech (e.g. C++, Spanner)

* History and passion for creating inclusive and respectful work environments

* Excellent communication and collaboration - ability to work across multiple teams to achieve long-term goals

Its preferred if you have:

* Familiarity with Google infrastructure (e.g. Flume, Borg, Protocol Buffers, OnePlatform)

* Experience with optimization / OR scheduler

* Experience with Geo (pathfinder, mapfacts, walking directions)

Note: The following is only applicable for roles hired in the US. As we keep the safety of our employees and our communities top of mind, COVID-19 vaccinations continue to be a critical prevention measure to help end the pandemic. Because of this, Waymo requires all US-based employees who perform work onsite for Waymo to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are unable to be vaccinated due to a disability, medical condition or religious belief, Waymo will provide a reasonable accommodation consistent with federal, state, and local law.
