JOB TITLE: Heavy Equipment Field Service Manager DEPARTMENT: D. H. Griffin Wrecking Company, Inc. - Demolition FLSA STATUS: Exempt I. SUMMARY: Employee serves as the driving force in field maintenance with responsibilities to include: Ensuring safe and quality completion of repairs. Ensuring equipment reliability by effectively scheduling available resources Maintaining a key role between the Heavy Equipment division and Production crews Accountability for tasks as delegated by the Maintenance Manager Schedule and manage Field Mechanics utilizing our maintenance management system HCSS E360 Provides leadership and is responsible for, although not limited to, supervising, ensuring the safety of mechanics, following DOT and OHSA requirements, planning and scheduling, employee relations, productivity of mechanics, quality control of repairs and equipment, and administration. II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities and essential duties include the following: Maintenance: Create a plan of action to complete repairs safely, effectively, and within allotted time. Communicate repair requirements to Site Supervision before beginning work with emphasis on their special requirements. Assign tasks and determine needed tools, equipment, and/or materials for repairs. Ensure the Mechanic's equipment is in proper, safe working condition. Keep superintendent/project manager informed of equipment repair progress, issues, etc. Seek superintendent/project manager clarification for repairs as needed. Communicate any needs expressed directly by the site Supervision to the Maintenance Manager to ensure crew satisfaction. Promote and carry out D.H. Griffin's values of safety, quality and productivity at all times. Administration: Use appropriate software to accurately manage and approve daily mechanic hours and ensure that mechanic time and materials are properly charged to work orders. Complete all required work order reports. Report all truck, trailer, and/or equipment damage immediately to the Maintenance Manager. Adhere to all safety and work conduct rules and ensure Field Mechanics are doing the same. Communicate company news and developments to Field Mechanics. Production Safety: Promote the safe and efficient use of equipment, trucks, and tools to always advance a culture of safety. Maintain a safe work site by instructing Mechanics how to use tools and equipment and what safety equipment is necessary when performing tasks. Report any injuries or property damage to the Maintenance Manager and site Safety representative immediately. Specific Safety Essentials: Understand and accept the importance of legal liability of this role to include: Know and understand the requirements of the DOT and OHSA. Know, understand, communicate, and ensure compliance with company safety policies/procedures. Ability to recognize hazardous/dangerous work situations and the knowledge to act promptly to eliminate the hazards and provide a safe workplace for self and other team members. Attend mandatory safety toolbox meetings Ensure completion of initial safety and hazard assessments. Participate in safety/incident investigations. Ensure that vehicle and equipment inspections are performed Quality Control: Be accountable for ensuring Field Mechanic's repairs meet quality standards through pre and post repair inspections and following up with Field crews to ensure repairs are performed thoroughly and to plan. Schedule periodic Field visits to build and maintain rapport with Field crews. III. SUPERVISORY AND LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead mechanics to demonstrate safe and efficient repair practices and equipment and tool use. Train mechanics in the correct way to perform repairs and continually check progress. Provide feedback on Mechanic's performance and suggest ways to improve. Address issues with Mechanics promptly and report rule violations immediately to the Maintenance Manager. Serve as a first line of communication to Field Mechanics, conveying company information while supporting and advancing D.H. Griffin's values and standards. Support Field Mechanics in their career endeavors, recommending employees for promotion and/or advancement. Participate as a primary contributor in interviews, provide input on hiring, and conduct disciplinary actions, and terminations. IV. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Demonstrated skill and understanding of proper equipment inspections and troubleshooting equipment repairs. Demonstrated communications skills of repair status to all levels of Management within the organization. Demonstrated high level of hydraulics and electrical troubleshooting Demonstrated skill and understanding in the practices of processing work orders within a computerized maintenance management system. (HCSS E360 preferred) Demonstrate ability to read equipment Operators and Maintenance Manuals. Lead, coach, and mentor mechanics Apply problem solving and conflict resolutions skills to manage differences and diversity Demonstrated ability of organizing and delegating work Handle the administrative duties of the position including completion of required documents. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing Ability to motivate and mentor Mechanics Ability to travel occasionally when needed AEMP EMS certification (preferred) Ability to type (preferred) Microsoft Office Excel experience (preferred) V. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Minimum of five years of full-time heavy equipment repair/maintenance experience and at least two years in a supervisory role. This supervisory requirement may be waived for internal applicants who otherwise meet the minimum requirements for this position. Applicant must have a valid Class C driver's license within 30 days of hire and meet company and insurer guidelines for driving. Other licenses and/or certifications may be required per contract specifications. VI. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to move one's whole body such as in climbing, lifting, kneeling, balancing, walking, stooping, repeatedly bending, talking, and hearing. This job requires considerable use of the arms and legs such as in the physical handling of materials. The employee must lift, handle, and/or move up to 50 pounds. This role requires the employee to regularly operate a company vehicle (i.e. pickup or SUV) on public roadways. VII. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. This position involves work in an office or in the Field where duties may be performed outdoors with regular exposure to outside/severe weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to hazardous materials.
