Overview:

Join our team as a Web IT Specialist to shape the future of scientific communication for the National Science Foundation's Directorate for Geosciences. In this role, you will craft clear, impactful publications and communications on cutting-edge geoscience research, directly supporting the NSF GEO Director. Leverage your technical writing expertise and scientific background to make complex geoscience topics accessible to diverse audiences, from Congress to the general public.

This is a hybrid role that will require the employee to work onsite at NSF HQ in Alexandria, VA several days a week. Monday Friday, normal working hours.

Responsibilities:
  • Writing/editing articles, white papers, fact sheets, blogs, web content, and other publications related to science topics of interest to stakeholders
  • Translating complicated scientific concepts and ideas into clear language
  • Drafting speeches, congressional testimony, talking points, and presentations as needed for Geosciences leadership related to science topics of interest to various stakeholders, from Congress to scientific associations and academia
  • This requires synthesizing information from a variety of internal and external sources to produce all manner of written materials
  • Developing communications plans, engagement strategies, and messaging to communicate the agencys mission and activities
  • Writing communications products that articulate, interpret, and explain important and complex Geoscience programs and research findings
  • Communicating with internal and external stakeholders to develop engaging, targeted communications for a wide variety of audiences; research communities, NSB, and the general public
  • Ensuring compliance with style guides
  • Conducting research, as required
  • Preparing and compiling documents for approval and clearance
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in a scientific field (geography, earth science, ocean science, environmental, etc.)
  • The ability to obtain a public trust clearance
  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • A strong writing and editing background
