Primary Purpose

The Observability Engineer will be responsible to contribute to building, growing, and fostering adoption of our enterprise Monitoring and Observability capabilities which aims to cover all the hardware, software, products and platforms within our IT landscape and Business domains. This role will participate in and support integration, creating educational materials, executing process improvements, and providing guidance to individuals on their journey with the overarching goal of driving proactive behaviors across the enterprise which ensure we are positioned to capture the market demand generated by our brands. This role supports the execution of needed changes and configurations within the monitoring tools and integrations of the Observability platforms in support of the Level II Engineers.

The Observability Engineer is an engineer who has foundational engineering knowledge and applies it to execute all aspects of implementation and evolution of the Monitoring and Observability Platform, following the observability strategy and direction of senior team members. Their focus will be on implementation & support of the Monitoring and Observability Platform as needed and directed by the Senior leaders within the Observability team.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to implementation of education, tooling, and process to realize the monitoring and observability platform strategy, in line with the design & senior team members direction.
  • Contribute to expanding the enterprise monitoring & observability platform to improve the availability & performance of our enterprise systems, reduce the operational support demand on our teams, reduce time to market by improving the developer visibility and ensure a consistent experience for our customers, resulting in increased revenue and reduced cost by:
    • Integrating hardware, software, products & platforms with Monitoring and/or Observability tooling.
    • Education of existing teams on tooling, process, monitoring & observability best practices.
    • Supporting process improvement as it relates to Monitoring and/or Observability.
    • Learning and sharing Monitoring & Observability best practices.
    • Following the guidance of senior resources to utilize existing technology investments such as monitoring, AI, machine learning, data aggregation and visualization, alerting/notifications, automatic remediation, etc.
    • Utilizing existing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CICD) tooling for Monitoring and Observability services.
    • Shadow Service Delivery to learn about incident management and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Build foundational relationships within the team to build key points of contact who can share knowledge.
  • Support and enable teams in adoption of the monitoring and observability platform.
  • Build strong partnerships and relationships with the team, suppliers, and other partners to drive capabilities
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent work experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with technical resources.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to Site Reliability Engineering concepts.
  • An interest in continuous learning and/or insatiable curiosity.
  • Experience maintaining a customer focused mindset.
