Job Description:

Responsibilities

  • Educating colleagues on best practices for monitoring and observability.
  • Guiding and reinforcing the effective use of our tools to enhance the quality, reliability, and availability of our services.
  • Implementing and refining monitoring solutions for both hardware and software within our ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and enhance monitoring capabilities.
  • Provide insights on monitoring best practices.
  • Offer guidance on monitoring specific hardware and software components.

Observability:
  • Implement and enhance observability across products and platforms.
Key Actions:
  • Develop and improve instrumentation.
  • Provide guidance on critical areas to observe.
  • Educate teams on the functionality of observability tools.

Customer Focus:
  • Ensure our internal clients receive optimal monitoring and observability to enhance the quality, reliability, and availability of IT infrastructure.
  • Engage in scripting, Infrastructure as Code, and process creation to streamline monitoring and observability implementations.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Monitoring, Observability, or Site Reliability Engineering.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent experience with a strong understanding of engineering best practices.
  • Familiarity with the interaction between hardware and software in a corporate environment.
  • Proficiency with Azure and Azure DevOps.
Preferred Knowledge:
  • In-depth knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
    • Application Servers (IIS, Tomcat, WebSphere, jBoss, etc.)
    • Containerization (Kubernetes, VMWare, etc.)
    • Databases (SqlServer, Postgres, DB2, Oracle, etc.)
    • Message Bus (IBM MQ, Kafka, Active MQ, Rabbit MQ)
    • Networking (Cisco ACI, F5 Load Balancers, Firewalls, etc.)
    • Operating Systems (RedHat, Windows, etc.)
    • Programming (Java, .NET, Python, etc.)
    • Storage Devices
    • Web Servers (Apache, Nginx, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodologies.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse personalities and technical skill levels across multiple teams.
  • Proficient in creating and maintaining technical documentation.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog, Nagios, and ServiceNow Event Management.
  • Knowledge of the Google Site Reliability Engineering model.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management tools like Terraform and Ansible.
  • Skills in troubleshooting production environments, which will be valuable as we develop the tools utilized by our teams.
  • A strong sense of ownership and a proven track record of accountability.
