Position Summary:

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is responsible for the acquisition, creation, and secure operation of Ensign College's computing, communication, software, audio/visual systems, and other technology-related elements of the institution. The CIO is ultimately responsible for the user experience of IT consumers and should seek avenues to improve college technology. In this role the CIO will lead interdisciplinary teams of managers, architects, engineers, technicians, and many others that will include college employees, Church Educational System (CES) institution employees, and outside contractors. They will participate in and lead strategic IT planning efforts for the institution and will represent Ensign College in related discussions within the Presidents Executive Council (PEC) and CES. In addition to fulfilling this purpose, each employee continuously strives to bring about the mission of Ensign College, which is to develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ.

Requirements for Employment Eligibility:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of related technology management experience.
  • Master's degree in information technology or related field is preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Ensures that the information technology services at Ensign College support and align with the college's technology needs and the overall goals and objectives of the institution.
  • Provide leadership in development and implementation of all technology initiatives including partnering with other CES institutions, department leaders, and the Church commissioner's office.
  • Create and enforce IT policies & procedures that align with the security, privacy, and operations of the college.
  • Ensures compliance with government regulations, accrediting standards, and CES policy related to governance of information technology system management.
  • Identifies information service needs for the College and their impact on system-wide resources and promotes the efficient use of resources by developing appropriate standards and ensuring that infrastructure costs are included in all information technology analyses.
  • Oversees the planning, analysis, design, and implementation of selected system-wide and campus-wide software applications by working with faculty, staff, and students to determine requirements, achieve milestones, and deploy successful Information Services projects.
  • Ensures fiscal responsibility and accountability through coordination and preparation of the annual budget, authorizing the expenditure of funds, and maintaining overall budget control of the Information Services at the College.
  • Provides leadership and develops a competent, productive, and effective staff, both directly and through delegation, by hiring, training, evaluating performance, and supervising all employees of the Information Services division.
  • Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development training, and attending training and/or courses as required by the President.
  • Contributes to the overall success of Ensign College's Information Technology services by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President.
