Description

JOB SUMMARY: Performs cashiering tasks with accuracy and efficiency while providing customers with friendly and helpful service.

This is a Full Time position (30+ hours weekly)

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES - all responsibilities listed are considered essential functions of the position.

  • Controls loss by observing appropriate cash controls, following established cash handling procedures, and ensuring receipt of payment for all products.
  • Ensures proper processing of non-cash tenders, such as checks, credit/debit/EBT cards, A/R and employee charges.
  • Follows all State, Federal, and store-specific laws, policies, and procedures regarding the sale of alcoholic beverages. Ensures that established age verification procedures are followed, and that management is alerted when sales are refused due to visible intoxication or other potentially unsafe circumstance.
  • Maintains and demonstrates understanding of Co-op membership, including benefits and procedures. Ensures accuracy of all membership-related functions, such as member sign-up, and proper associate of membership accounts in the Point of Sale.
  • Provides shoppers with a pleasant, efficient, friendly shopping experience by checking out products accurately and efficiently, and ensuring that customer carryout needs are met. Handles customer complaints and concerns respectfully, and takes action as indicated.
  • Requests assistance promptly and effectively, as needed, utilizing the phone system as indicated. Promptly and professionally pages/requests register back-up and other types of assistance, following established store guidelines when making pages.
  • Remains abreast of changing policies, procedures, and other informational items, utilizing the Cashier Log and other means of communication to ensure comprehension.
  • Observes established security practices, including opening, closing, and cash handling procedures. Operate POS under own login.
  • Accurately processes coupons, discounts, manually entered PLUs, prompts, and tares. Demonstrates understanding of policies and procedures regarding combined discounts, is able to explain these policies and procedures accurately and tactfully to customers. Promptly communicates error messages, scan discrepancies, equipment problems, and other issues that require attention.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Performs tasks outside of regular job responsibilities as requested. Accepts assigned tasks with professionalism, and completes them to the standard of a regularly assigned task.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, and abilities)
  • Effective communication skills; ability to work closely and cooperatively with others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with Point Of Sale (POS) programs, such as ECRS Catapult.
  • Experience handling cash and other forms of payment.
  • Knowledge of the Cooperative Principles and Cooperative Business module.
  • Familiarity with natural foods; basic understanding of retail concepts and of retail industry.
