Process Engineer, Battery Module

A Process Engineer will implement, develop, and optimize production methodologies in the manufacturing operations of Tesla. This engineer will be responsible for directly supporting the production line, continuously optimizing the manufacturing process metrics(TAU/OEE) of multiple high volume manufacturing lines that include dispens e systems, assembly, laser welders, robot stations, electrical testing, vision systems,etc. They will interface with equipment and controls engineers, maintenance, and quality engineering to solve problems, improve manufacturability, and implement equipment upgrades. They will sustain products with cost reduction and yield improvements. In addition, the process engineer will work with quality and design to compile and evaluate data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications.
Responsibilities
- Expertise Potting (Chemical Batching, food chemical engineering, process controls,temperature gauging of material, flow, pressures , optimization)
- Laser welding optimization of energy to maximize welding strength, cycle time, reducing quality losses( camera optics, lens)
- Hi-pot, resistance or impedance testers , tools testing
- Participate in the transition of a product from concept to pilot line production and into mass manufacturing
- Analyze and optimize production processes to ensure safety while maximizing Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in cost effective means while driving to achieve world-class quality levels.
- Responsible for diagnosing issues found during the part manufacturing process and drive corrective action back to source, resulting in root cause identification and elimination.Utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) and Eight Disciplines (8D).
- Enable data driven operational and financial decisionsthrough predictive insights into tool and process performance, includingintegration of factory data systems and use of software such as MySQL, JMP,Minitab, Tableau and Ignition, as well as working knowledge of at least oneprogramming language like Python, Jython, R, SQL
- Monitorand reduce process variation using techniques such as Statistical ProcessControl (SPC) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).Monitor and auditmanufacturing processes to ensure product specifications and standards areachieved.Participate in the development and maintenance of FMEAs andControl Plans.Analyze, develop, process, and implement EngineeringChange Orders.
- Createand maintain Manufacturing Instructions, routings, and associatedprocesses.Develop and train sustaining technicians, assist in thetraining of operators as needed.Manage activities for process sustainingtechnicians to support day to day coverage of production line, includingdeveloping and documenting appropriate rework procedures.
- Support24 by 7 production operations
- BS Degree in process/chemical engineering, manufacturing/industrial engineering, computer/electrical engineering, mathematics, physical science, (STEM) or related
- Experience developing and improving process.Have a demonstrated track record of Overall Equipment Effectiveness improvement activities
- Data collection and analysis experience
- Ability to develop data driven root cause analyses and solutions. Demonstrate use of statistical analysis for decision making (DOE, linear regressions, hypothesis testing, capability studies
- Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly.Able to utilize structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W) or Eight Disciplines (8D)
- Able to resolve high level performance issues into addressable actions
