Position Overview:
Bose Professional is seeking a high-energy, passionate, and innovative Head of Acoustics Engineering to lead the charge on fast-paced and exciting R&D initiatives as we design and build our next generation of world-class professional audio speaker systems. In this role you will work across the entire organization, collaborating and iterating on product ideas, architecture, detailed design, rapid prototyping and testing. You will also set the technical direction for acoustics R&D, including the workflows and tools used to go from early concepts to parametric models, to rapid prototyping and testing/evaluation, to optimization and tuning for final productization. This is an amazing opportunity to help reshape our design methodology to leverage contemporary ideas like digital twins & AI.

The Head of Acoustics Engineering will manage an internal team of acoustic/speaker system design engineers as well as a network of consultants and CM/JDM partners, while working closely with our product team and electrical & mechanical engineering teams. As a highly technical and hands-on "player/coach" you will recruit and hire new engineers, coach and mentor your team, and dive deep into challenging loudspeaker design initiatives. You will help support existing products with our operations team and manufacturing partners, while conducting research and technical investigations focused on new products and features.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with a wide array of internal stakeholders to identify and analyze market opportunities, understand customer pain points, and realize creative solutions.
  • Accelerate our innovation process for next-generation products, leverage our extensive in-house experience/knowledge base and IP, conduct research and explore emerging technology trends, and be a catalyst for innovation and new IP generation.
  • Mentor, coach, and guide our acoustics engineering team on best practices across design, analysis, optimization, debugging and problem solving.
  • Create technical proposals outlining potential solutions and approaches that are aligned with our strategic product vision and business goals. Effectively communicate proposals and designs to both engineering colleagues and senior executives.
  • Produce architecture and detailed design documents.
  • As a hands-on engineering practitioner, create rapid prototypes by leveraging our cross-functional engineering teams, outside engineering support services and specialized consultants.
  • Be a champion for innovation and creativity, while staying focused on practical solutions that meet cost, schedule, and quality targets.

Qualifications - Must Have:
  • B.S. in Acoustics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or similar (M.S. preferred)
  • Prior experience managing small teams of 4-8 engineers focused on designing, building, testing, and delivering loudspeaker products
  • 10+ years of hands-on acoustic product development experience with loudspeakers, amplifiers, and professional audio equipment; transducer design experience is a big plus
  • Solid understanding of loudspeaker, waveguide, and transducer design/optimization techniques
  • Deep understanding of crossover design and optimization
  • Experience using and interpreting results from acoustic simulation & design software tools such as MATLAB or Comsol

Qualifications - Nice to Have:
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety/regulatory standards and testing practices for audio systems and loudspeakers
  • Experience developing QA test procedures and test rigs
