The Director of Reporting and Technical Accounting will lead and mentor a team of 12+ external reporting and technical accounting

professionals to develop a best-in-class framework and ongoing governance for the company's external financial reporting and

technical accounting processes, in accordance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership:
    • Elevate, manage, and develop the team, which includes levels of senior manager, manager, and senior analyst/accountant,

      onshore and offshore.
    • Manage with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement, using a collaborative management style and

      willingness to dig into details to support Medline's objectives in a complex and evolving environment.
    • Develop and mentor staff through open communication, training and development opportunities and performance

      management processes; build and maintain employee morale and motivation; ensure the team is appropriately staffed

      with required competencies.
    • Meet with team weekly or as needed to review workload and deliverables/activities progress, redistributing if necessary
  • External Reporting:
    • Lead the external financial reporting process, including preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial

      tatements, footnotes, and management's discussion and analysis of results (MD&A).
    • Participate in the quarterly earnings process by delivering and/or reviewing key materials (e.g. releases, slide decks and

      cripts).
    • Review deliverables in detail to ensure the highest quality standard in financial reporting.
    • Apply proven expertise to lead SEC reporting top-ups to financial statements (e.g., segment reporting, related party, nonGAAP and EPS disclosures), including ongoing and one-time deliverables and reports.
  • Technical Accounting:
    • Analyze, assess, and document the impact of relevant technical guidance on the Company's operations and transactions,

      including accounting policies and disclosures.
    • Lead and perform accounting research and act as advisor to the business for the accounting implications of both

      ongoing and nonrecurring transactions.
    • Lead the implementation and creation of accounting policies under US GAAP, including new guidance, and

      provide implementation guidance to the business.
    • Apply GAAP expertise to enhance the review and governance over key, complex and/or high-risk accounting area

      globally, such as reserves, inventory, and revenue.
    • Lead and review monthly close processes (including key schedules, journal entries, and account reconciliation) for technical

      accounting areas (e.g., debt, derivatives, and share-based compensation). Analyze operating financials, interpret result

      and recommend a plan of action to improve the accounting process. Provide periodic monthly and quarterly schedules to

      upport internal and external reporting.
    • Oversee the purchase accounting, valuation and accounting integration of newly acquired entities.
    • Implement and lead the process for pro forma and standalone financial reporting for acquired entities to comply with both

      US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Act as the global subject matter expert on US GAAP and SEC regulations for preparing and filing SEC reports; demonstrate a clear

    understanding of related authoritative literature governing financial reporting for public companies. Stay current on new/proposed

    accounting guidance and best practices, including US GAAP and SEC Reporting. Communicate and cross-functionally collaborate to

    implement any needed changes to internal controls and processes as a result of regulatory changes.
  • Assist with the documentation and testing related to the internal control environment and provide support for SOX 404

    requirements, including review and maintenance of various technical accounting and reporting processes and documentation.
  • Support the external/internal audit request process as applicable. Oversee the global statutory audit process.
  • Lead large-scale projects (including those mentioned above) to implement process improvements and internal controls for financial

    reporting and technical accounting. Work cross functionally to manage change and enhance communications with stakeholders.
  • Support new business initiatives, system integrations, and other major change management impacting financial statements and

    related systems. Proactively identify opportunities and participate in large-scale projects to enhance/automate processes,

    implement systems, and/or enact systems enhancements to ensure and support sustainable long-term growth.
  • Represent Medline interests to internal and external parties by leading/preparing/reviewing both periodic and ad hoc

    presentations/schedules - e.g., for CFO and other company leadership, disclosure committee, lenders, tax authorities, auditors and

    other stakeholders. Deliver collaborative and proactive relationships with key stakeholders inside and outside of Medline such a

    tax, treasury, external and external auditors, legal and compliance, IT, HR, FP&A, revenue, and other departments.
Requirements:
  • Bachelors or master's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field.
  • At least 8 years relevant experience in SEC reporting and technical accounting areas at large, multi-national public companies (can

    be mix of public accounting or in-house as a public company).
  • At least 4 years of experience directly managing people including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work.
  • Extensive experience leading the process for and preparing SEC communications (e.g., Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and SEC comment

    letters) and technical memo writing within publicly traded companies.
  • Strong technical accounting acumen, with proven ability to perform complex accounting research and analysis.
  • Experience applying advanced knowledge level of accounting practices, controls (including SOX 404), and systems for relevant

    business processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the highest regard for accuracy, completeness, and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated track-record of process improvements and team leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people across variou

    functions, management, and external professionals (i.e., auditors and regulators).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively collaborate and work in teams as well as work independently.
