Overview:
The Tax Analyst II is primarily responsible for supporting the Federal and State and Local Tax Managers in the preparation and review of tax filings, research, and planning required of a multinational insurance and insurance agency holding company. This position will also work on Partnership tax matters, as requested, and required. The AmTrust Tax Department has a hybrid work policy the employees are required to work from our Downtown Cleveland office Tuesday through Thursday but can work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. A conscientious self-starter with strong communication skills is required.
Responsibilities:- Responsible for the preparation of corporate non-insurance tax returns and supporting workpapers (federal non-insurance income tax returns and state and local non-insurance income tax returns)
- Responsible for qualifying returns and resolving diagnostic issues that would prevent electronic filing of federal and state income tax
- Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual income tax provision for non-insurance subsidiaries in accordance with ASC 740 (formerly Statement 109: Accounting for Income Taxes)
- Draft responses to federal and state tax notices, assessments, queries, audits, and examinations
- Manage and update a large tax compliance calendar and audit schedules, preparing estimate payments, extension requests, annual reports, and other various filings
- Utilize technology to research tax laws, regulations, and instructions to properly report to tax authorities and assist in possible planning opportunities
- Build and maintain technical expertise related to federal, partnership, state and local tax laws and regulations
- Compile information for and prepare various indirect tax filings, including sales and use, property, franchise, and other various indirect filings
- Work with Procurement and Accounts Receivable to determine the taxability of certain purchases, using the Vertex Sales and Use Tax automation system
- Experience with OneSource Income Tax or similar tax preparation software
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Organized individual with an attention to detail
- Ability to work efficiently in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to complete thorough and detailed workpapers supporting various tax returns
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting
- Advanced training indicated by CPA designation or Masters of Tax preferred but not required
- 2 to 4 years of tax experience in public accounting or in industry or an equivalent combination of experience is necessary
