Overview:

The Financial Resources Specialist is responsible for is accountable for assisting Loretto and the Commons customers with applying for government entitlement benefits (Medicare, Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Veterans Administration (VA) benefits).

Responsibilities:

Job duties specific to this position:

  • Responsible for assisting residents/family members in securing government entitlement benefits (ie. Veterans Benefits, Medicaid, SSI, etc.).
  • Completes the timely filing of Medicaid, Medicare, and SSI, VA applications on behalf of Loretto / The Commons customers referred to or identified by the Finance Department.
  • Tracks pending applications to ensure application due dates/deadlines are met for compliance. Notifies Financial Resources Manager of any identified barriers in securing eligibility
  • Conducts monthly aging review to identify residents who may need help with securing entitlement benefits.
  • Issues NAMI notifications to pending applicants. Notifies Financial Resources Manager of applicants not complying.
  • Serves as liaison for facility staff in resolving resident financial issues preventing procurement of medical services (i.e. transportation, medical care provided outside the Loretto system).
  • Requests application be made for representative payee of residents social security, SSI or VA benefits when appropriate.

  • Understands all HIPAA and other compliance & regulatory requirements associated with their role, including completion of required internal or external training/certifications.
  • Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Previous knowledge of all government entitlement eligibility requirements and working experience in a similar position within a health facility, SNF and/or Home Health desired.
  • Strong communication and writing skills. Ability to compose professional and accurate emails.
  • Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.

An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
