Telephonic Nurse Triage Specialist

In this remote position, you will play a crucial role in providing timely and precise medical guidance to patients via telephone, particularly in urgent or after-hours situations. Your ability to assess symptoms, offer medical advice, and coordinate care will significantly impact patient outcomes and experience. Key Responsibilities Conduct telephonic assessments of patient symptoms to determine the appropriate level of care. Provide accurate medical advice aligned with established protocols and guidelines. Triage patient calls effectively, prioritizing medical needs based on urgency. Document all patient interactions and assessments thoroughly and accurately. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians and emergency services, to ensure coordinated care. Maintain adherence to legal and ethical standards while offering telephonic medical advice. Utilize medical databases and resources to ensure delivery of current and accurate patient care information. Communicate effectively with patients, ensuring clarity in understanding medical advice and instructions. Adapt to various telephonic medical scenarios, managing patient concerns with empathy. Engage in ongoing training and education to stay informed on medical practices and protocols. Uphold professionalism and compassion in all patient communications. Shift Availability This role requires coverage for shifts from 12 AM to 8 AM. Required Qualifications Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license, with a preference for a state of Illinois license or willingness to obtain. Compact State Licensure is also required or must be obtained promptly. At least 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in emergency or urgent care settings. Experience in triage nursing or telephone triage is essential. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare processes. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Skills in accurately assessing and prioritizing patient needs efficiently. Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and telephonic systems. Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations. Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment. Commitment to ethical standards in telephonic medical consultations. Flexibility to accommodate varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Capacity to multitask and handle nursing responsibilities effectively. Willingness to undergo necessary background checks for remote nursing practice.
