Job DescriptionJob Purpose : This position reports directly to the Manager of Volunteer Programs. This supporting position will assist in the oversight of the youth volunteers and execution of adult volunteer programs during the peak summer season. Monitoring and evaluating teens on duty, assisting in communication, recognition, retention, record keeping, and training of Zoo Atlanta's volunteers. The position requires enthusiasm and creativity as well as excellent skills in customer service, communication, leadership, and time management. This is a part-time position with a work schedule of Friday - Sunday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.JOB FACTORSEssential Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssist with Volunteen Training week including set up, check in and check out, evaluations, and promoting positive experiences for all participants Meet Volunteens prior to the morning and afternoon shifts, during lunch, and at the end of the dayEnforce all Zoo Atlanta and Volunteer policiesEvaluate and support volunteers during their shiftsSupervise volunteers during events while supporting the Public Events teamEnsure the safety of volunteers at all times, and perform emergency procedure responsibilities as necessaryProvide excellent guest service to all Zoo guests, and set an example for volunteersMust be willing to support Zoo Atlanta's Vision, Mission and Values statementAny other miscellaneous projects/assignments assigned by Zoo Atlanta's Education management teamExperience and SkillsKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesProven two (2) years of experience working with adolescentsAt least (1) year of experience working with volunteersExtremely strong oral and written communication skillsStrong organization skillsFlexible schedule as weekend, holiday, and some evening work are requiredProfessional dress, appearance, and conductWorking knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.EDUCATION:Education level required for positionsAssociate's degree or two years of college education majoring in Education, volunteer management, Interpretation, Biology, Zoology, Environmental Education, or equivalent relevant major or relevant experience.Certificates/Licenses/RegistrationsNonePHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds.Must be able to stand and walk for extended lengths of time.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.MISC:This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
