Job DescriptionConnecticut Children's Occupational Therapy team helps children and adolescents develop skills to lead their most independent life. We provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services to individuals who are affected by injuries and illnesses, physical challenges, and developmental disabilities. Our dedicated team work with families, community resources and multidisciplinary care teams to assess each individual's unique needs. We then develop a personalized treatment plan in coordination with other healthcare providers. We use an episodic model of intervention to address each child's functional goals. Frequency of care may vary depending upon the individual's progress and changing needs.Under general supervision, assists in coordinating daily operations of the Occupational Therapy department; ensure adherence to regulatory, organizational and department policies and procedures. Serves as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to clinical and non-clinical team members. Leads initiatives to further enhance the patient family experience and the quality of services provided by the occupational department. Leads the occupational therapy department presence and integration into the community.ResponsibilitiesDemonstrates knowledge of the organization mission, values and goals and holds others accountable for their performance. Demonstrates knowledge of population-specific differences and needs of patients in populations from neonate through adolescence, and applies them to practice. Role models awareness of diversity equity and inclusion and role models with all interactions with patients/families and team members.CLINICAL PRACTICE:Provide direct patient care up to 50% of scheduled hours. Demonstrates advanced clinical practice in pediatric occupational therapy and serves as a resource to all team members across all service delivery. Provides coaching regarding all clinical and non-clinical duties. Leads patient care teams and represents the department on hospital wide and/or community-based committees.EDUCATION/RESEARCH: Role models evidence based clinical care. Leads and supports team with identifiy and copleting research endeavors. Identify opportunities for staff development. Partners with internal/external resources to implement action plans, measuring success with patient outcomes. Leads community education and outreach events. ADMINISTRATIVE:Lead daily operations including team members schedules, clinical input to inpatient and outpatient scheduling. Provide input to operational and capital budgeting and help identify action steps to rectify variances. Demonstrates commitment to continuous quality improvement and leads endeavors to enhance safety, clinical care and patient family experience. Other assigned dutiesSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise assigned staff. Coach and hold team accountable to organization standards and complete annual performance appraisals of assigned staff. Assists management with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members Assist with clinical education programQualificationsEducation/Experience:Graduate of an accredited program in Occupational Therapy - required, (Masters degree or Doctoral Degree preferred)Minimum of 5 years experience in pediatric occupational therapy that is relevant to the clinical practice of the assigned team members. Demonstrate advanced pediatric occupational therapy clinical reasoning and decision making.License/Certifications:Current State of CT Occupational Therapy license - requiredCurrent certification in Basic Life Support/ CPR in adult child and infant is required or obtained in first six months of hire About UsConnecticut Children's is the only health system in Connecticut that is 100% dedicated to children.
