Position Summary:
East House is a dedicated non-profit organization committed to supporting individuals on their journey to recovery. We provide comprehensive services, including residential support, counseling, peer support, and community outreach to empower individuals to overcome mental health and substance use disorders and lead fulfilling lives. Our mission is to foster a supportive environment that promotes healing and long-term recovery.

We are seeking a Human Resources Manager to lead and manage all aspects of East House's day-to-day Human Resources operations, including talent acquisition and orientation, employee relations, records management and compliance, benefits and compensation administration, performance management, and employee engagement. This role is critical in fostering a supportive, mission-aligned workplace culture while ensuring that HR practices are consistent with the needs of a non-profit organization dedicated to recovery support.

Responsibilities:

Employee Relations and Culture

  • Foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture that supports the well-being and development of staff.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees on HR-related issues, including conflict resolution, employee engagement, and career development.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance employee morale and retention, such as staff appreciation programs and wellness initiatives.
Compliance and Legal
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, FLSA, EEO, and ADA.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HR best practices and legal requirements, ensuring that the organization follows ethical and lawful HR practices.
  • Develop, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures, including the employee handbook, ensuring they align with the organization's mission and values.
Performance Management and Development
  • Lead the performance management process, ensuring that employees receive regular feedback, support, and development opportunities.
  • Work with managers to address performance issues, provide coaching, and create development plans for staff growth.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Learning & Development to implement training programs that enhance staff skills, improve team effectiveness, and align with organizational goals.
Talent Acquisition
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements related to recruitment and hiring.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract top talent aligned with the organization's mission and values.
  • Collaborate with department heads to anticipate staffing needs and oversee the full lifecycle talent acquisition process.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Oversee benefits administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits programs.
  • Regularly review and assess compensation structures to ensure competitive, equitable, and mission-aligned compensation practices.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
  • Assist with benefit carriers' bill reconciliations and payments.
  • Oversee leave management, including but not limited to FMLA, Disability, PFL, etc.
Organizational Development
  • Partner with the Director of Learning & Development and leadership team to develop and implement HR strategies that support the organization's goals and mission.
  • Support organizational change initiatives, including staffing restructuring, process improvements, and leadership development programs.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration across all levels of the organization.
Other
  • Ensure compliance with policies, federal and state regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Ethics, Compliance & Quality on identifying and correcting non-compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief People Officer.
Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; comparable education and experience may be considered.
  • Master's degree and/or HR certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3-5 years' experience managing people and/or significant projects, ideally in a non-profit or mission-driven environment.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of employment law, HR best practices, and non-profit sector dynamics.
  • Proven experience in employee relations, policy development and implementation, performance management, benefits and compensation administration, and recruitment.
  • Proficiency in using HRIS or applicant tracking systems (ATS) such as Paylocity or ADP.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and solve complex HR challenges.
  • Excellent consultative skills involving exceptional verbal and written communication, active listening, persuasion, presentation, and public speaking abilities.
  • Proficiency with various Microsoft applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word, and/or other computer systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task.
  • Passion for the mission of supporting individuals in recovery and a commitment to creating a supportive, inclusive workplace.

Working Conditions/Work Environment
