Requirements

Summary/Objectives

Originates mortgage loans, promotes the financial institution and its lending services to the real estate community and helps to identify and serve the community's financial needs through seminars and sales meetings and by participating in and promoting the financial institutions community activities.

Essential Functions

  1. Solicits mortgage loans, informs prospective loan clients of the financial institutions underwriting guidelines and applicable government regulations.
  2. Establish relationships with and calls on Realtors, Builders, Developers and other professionals in order to increase mortgage activity and expand mortgage referral network.
  3. Completes each loan application and all processing functions in a timely manner, explains documents to applicants and ensures accuracy of the mortgage file. Screens loan requests based on the bank's policies and determines what mortgage program best meets customer needs.
  4. Personally answer's incoming phone calls, schedules appointments and communicates complex approvals or denials to the borrowers, real estate agents or builders.
  5. Maintains full knowledge of all government, secondary market and internal policies and procedures to insure compliance.
  6. Register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLSR), obtain a unique identifier number, update information as required, and annually renew registration. Comply with all of the requirements of the S.A.F.E. ACT.
  7. Attends mortgage loan closings for the first time homebuyers and follow ups, post-closing, with all customers.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers and filing cabinets.

Required Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • Associates degree in related field or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of one year experience in Residential Mortgage Lending
  • Good sales, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Obtain an active Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license in New York State
