Job Summary:
The Executive Director of Development, Major and Principal Gifts will report directly to the Vice President for Development. This role will manage a portfolio of prospects to support and grow major and principal gift activity for institutional priorities. .

Position Summary:
The Executive Director of Development, Major and Principal Gifts will report directly to the Vice President for Development. This role will manage a portfolio of prospects to support and grow major and principal gift activity for institutional priorities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support all fundraising activities related to VUMC’s major and principal prospects.
Partner with VUMC staff and leadership to support the identification, timely cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major and principal gift prospects.
Foster collaborative and productive partnerships across VUMC to support the development of major and principal gift level opportunities.
Oversee the tracking of major and principal gift prospects through the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship cycle by reviewing timely and appropriate moves on donor/prospects.
Ensure that proper donor/prospect follow-up and next steps are set and executed.
Coordinate with Strategic Communications to support execution of stewardship for major and principal gift donors.
Work with Foundation Relations and Corporate Relations to support major and principal giving opportunities as needed.
Regularly assess effectiveness of current major and principal gift strategies.
Contribute to a work environment that adheres to VUMC’s core values.
Travel, evening and weekend work required as necessary.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) (Required)
7 years relevant experience (Required)
Minimum of 10 years professional experience preferred in a fundraising communications role at a major not-for-profit organization, preferably within a healthcare organization
Master’s degree preferred
Excellent judgment and sensitivity to interpersonal and organizational dynamics
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with high-level executives
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain solid working relationships with faculty, staff and leaders in the Medical Center
Ability to make independent decisions that impact the medical center
Strategic thinker and process-minded problem solver
