Position Summary

The Fraternity and Sorority Affairs Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director for Student Life & Engagement. Alongside the Assistant Director, this role provides coordination for organization advising, programming, chapter management, and organizational development for all social Greek-lettered fraternities and sororities for a thriving student experience.

The Coordinator assists affiliated member organizations with the planning and implementing programs and provides services designed to enhance and encourage engagement, recruitment, and retention of affiliated members. The coordinator supports the Greek community by working with various internal and external constituents to enhance the quality of the fraternity and sorority experience. A successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to identify organizational needs, conduct assessment, and conflict mediation.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:
Greek Life Coordination
•Coordinate governance of recognized fraternities, sororities, and associated governing council(s).
•Assist as needed with the review and development of policies and procedures related to Greek-lettered organizations and risk prevention/harm reduction.
•Aid in the implementation of the Greek Pillars of Excellence.
•Lead the coordination, development, and management of campus and chapter advisors.
•Provide support to fraternity and sorority advisors as needed.
•Maintain student records related to Greek-lettered organizations.
•Prepare reports and development plans as they pertain to Greek-lettered organizations.
•Assist Housing and Residence Life as needed in support of Greek Village oversight.
•Attend council meetings as necessary.

Advising and Programming
•Serve as advisor to honor societies affiliated with Greek-lettered organizations.
•Assist in the coordination of recruitment efforts for Greek-lettered organizations.
•Coordinate developmental and educational programming for Greek-lettered organizations. These include, but are not limited to, new member education, educational retreats, risk management, recruitment, and budget financing.
•Manage advising of organization chapter leaders.
•Coordinate programming related to leadership development, scholarship, community building, alcohol and substance abuse education, new member education, wellness, risk management, Title IX, etc.
•Assist Greek letter organizations in planning, analysis, development, and implementation of short- and long-term goals.
•Plan, in conjunction with undergraduate and graduate leadership, the annual NPHC Step Show.

Departmental and Division
•Maintain open and consistent communication with the Assistant Director for Student Life and Engagement.
•Support the Assistant Director in planning and implementation of strategic initiatives.
•Represent the Department of Student Life & Engagement at orientation and recruitment events as it relates to Greek-lettered organizations.
•Support the Department of Student Life & Engagement in major campus-wide programs as appropriate.
•Develop marketing materials and strategies to enhance fraternity and sorority life on campus.
•Stay informed and educate the University community and stakeholders as needed regarding issues, trends, and regulations impacting fraternity and sorority affairs.
•Participate in related professional organizations for continuing development
•Maintain a budget in accordance with University policies and procedures.
•Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.


Required Minimum Qualifications
•A minimum of a Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years related experience a higher education institution or social Greek-lettered organization.
•Knowledge of best practices within Greek-lettered organizations, student activities and programming, and student support and engagement.
•Skills that exemplify collaboration, communication, action, and advocacy.
•Ability to lead, develop, and work with a diverse staff.
•Advanced oral and written communication skills.
•Ability to administer multiple deadlines and tasks.
•Demonstrated ability to analyze and assess data.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications
Complementing the required skills and qualifications:
•Master's degree, and at least 2 years of related experience as a full-time professional or graduate assistant at a higher education institution or social Greek-lettered organization.
•Membership in a social Greek-lettered organization.
•Experience with leading special initiatives, programs, and strategic planning.
