Overview:

University Advancement manages the development and alumni relations divisions; building philanthropic support and engagement opportunities among University alumni, friends, parents of students and other constituents. The office is primarily responsible for generating and increasing levels of private support for the University and its programs from all donor sources. The Conway School of Nursing and the National Catholic School of Social Service are important partners in this work. Advancements efforts to support these schools will contribute to enhancing the academic environment, increasing student success, and improving faculty excellence in both schools.

The Director of Advancement for the Conway School of Nursing and the National Catholic School of Social Service will serve as the lead advancement officer for the Schools, responsible for all activities related to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual, major and planned gifts from alumni, friends, and institutions. The position collaborates closely with the central University Advancement team, which provides resources and strategic counsel, and uniform metrics to help drive results within the schools and across the University. The Director also manages the collaborative effort in building alumni engagement and communicating the Schools mission, vision, and achievements to key donor, alumni, and additional external constituencies. The position reports dually to the Associate Vice President for University Advancement and to the Deans of the Conway School, and of NCSSS. The Director will provide support to the Dean of the School and faculty on advancement matters, will work with central advancement to determine the philanthropic strategy annually, and will help to organize and communicate the Schools philanthropic priorities in order to maximize internal and external support.

Responsibilities:

Managing the advancement effort for the Conway School of Nursing, and the National Catholic School of Social Service by working with advancement central team to develop, implement and evaluate annual advancement plans. Manage and refine philanthropic priorities annually for the Schools, ensuring that the highest priorities are identified and achieved. Collaborating with the Associate VP and at times the Vice President for University Advancement for identified & prospective donors of seven figures and up. Securing major and principal sources of support to meet funding priorities set by the Dean and in response to supporting key initiatives or strengths of the academic program within the Schools. Managing a portfolio of relationships with major gift suspects, prospects, and donors. The Director will be expected to conduct at least 90 prospect visits annually, soliciting and closing 15-25 major/principal gifts, along with identifying and qualifying the same number of new major/principal gift prospects each year. While yearly gift revenue goals will vary, the Director must build upon a program that currently generates eight-figure revenue annually.

Building and maintaining volunteer leadership through alumni engagement and external constituencies are key to the Schools fundraising success. This includes the recruitment of new members to grow the board of visitors and the pool of flexible revenue the deans can use to pursue opportunities and create new programs. Working with the Dean and the Schools Advancement staff to cultivate strong working relationships with faculty of the school who are overseeing priority academic and research areas. Continuously educating and stewarding the faculty to support participation in philanthropic work. Hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff.

The ability to drive a vehicle (campus or non-campus) on behalf of university business.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible development/advancement experience within a large, highly complex non-profit business environment, with Higher Education experience strongly preferred; demonstrated track record of developing, soliciting, and securing large gifts; experience managing volunteer leadership groups for philanthropic purposes (board management); experience with capital campaigns, especially soliciting and closing lead gifts, developing solicitation materials, case statements, etc.; and mission aligned with Catholic University.

Must be polished, passionate and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Must possess the ability to lead and obtain results from professional colleagues and exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Must have effective planning and organization skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google suite of applications. Familiarity with generally accepted office procedures, and ability to utilize the internet for research-related duties. Skills in planned giving and/or wealth management desirable. Skill in using development-related database systems, preferably Raiser's Edge. Skills in using development-related database systems.

Possession of current and valid U.S. drivers license appropriate to the type of university vehicle and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record (MVR) as stipulated in the Vehicle Guidelines and Procedures Manual administered through the office of Environmental Health and Safety.
